Northeastern Huskies 2017-18: Every Dog Has its Day

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2017-18: Every Dog Has its Day

the gm.. its not that NU played bad.. they just did not play much at all first 2 periods. Cant fault Primeau on any of the goals really.. one a weird bouncy deflection, the other a own screen, but good read by UConn i thought. gotta give credit to the visitors, they block a lot of shots, we just couldnt find the lanes tonight. The 3rd G, gross turnover. Also, our powerplay looked off all night.

Now for the good.. last 10 mins, the first line decided to play and they are fun to watch when they get going.. down 3-0 made it 3-2 quick with couple mins left and you could feel this was going to be a tie gm any minute.. Nolan came so darn close with clock ticking down.. you could feel the 3-3 .. alas, did not get the bounce & they get the ENG. We also missed a wide open net mid way through the 3rd.

Not concerned. Off night, Primeau still looks fine with the shots he did save.. takes a lot to beat him which is reassuring.
Onward to Monday, let's win it for Mrs. Konya.. (and Husky fans old & young :)!) & again, ..full recovery to her.

Go NU

If anyone has seen Filipe or Solow, please let the authorities know, they've been missing for the better part of 3 months now.

also want to add.. this UConn team is playing pretty sound hockey. They've won their last 6 in a row.. during which they've beaten Providence, BC & now us. Having said that, we had 'em there at the end, but you can't wake up that late. Good lesson for Monday as well.

Hmmm

Not only did you quote yourself

But you included “us” with pc and bc (offending, no doubt, two fanbases)

:D

"We don't have enough forwards making plays right now." -- JM postgame presser.

The lack of secondary scoring has been a concern on this thread going back almost to the start of the season. It's the reason this team is fighting for its PWR life right now. And I don't think Primeau gets a clean slate for the way things turned out last night. He smothers everything in close but seems to have trouble tracking pucks coming at him from further out.

So here's the scouting report:

1. Cover the Big Three tight.
2. Keep the other forwards on the perimeter.
3. Shoot early and often from the tops of the circles and beyond.

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2017-18: Every Dog Has its Day

Harper ruled out, Greenway at the Olympics, Carpenter and Krys both recovering from injuries, Crotty and Olsson both DNP last night with apparent nagging injury - NU should be heavily, heavily favored to end the drought Monday night.

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2017-18: Every Dog Has its Day

Agree with points 1 and 2. As for Primeau, I give him little blame for last night. Goal #1 was on him before he knew it. Goal #2 was tipped or took a huge bounce. Both of those goals came off plays made due to battles being lost for the puck inside NU's blueline. Goal #3 was on a poor play on a loose puck at the blue line. Williams failed to collect the puck and Letunov (who is exactly the wrong player we needed to see there) picked him clean and walked in on Primeau. Primeau could have played that better (not sure why he went for a poke check?) but Letunov is a very talented scorer and nailed it. Ronan's ENG was a pure hustle play. On another point, it's clear Madigan is frustrated by most of the forwards not wearing 8/9/21. One thing I don't get is why does Coach roll Solow out with the #1 PP? Solow can handle the puck but his refusal to SHOOT makes him easy to play off of. Can we at least try Hawkins on the Right Point? If not him, try Williams?

we may reach running clock status midway through the 2nd!!!

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2017-18: Every Dog Has its Day

I watched most of last night's game, but I was at a bar, so did not have access to the sound. On Northeastern's first goal, I thought there was a delayed penalty coming up on UConn. It looked to me as though a UConn player (#8) clearly had control of the puck and shot it back towards the blue line (where it was intercepted by a NU player (#4). Shouldn't the whistle have blown? Did anyone else notice this?

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2017-18: Every Dog Has its Day

Just watched the replay and you are correct. It must be that the play bu UConn's #8 happened in a crowded space and that his pass only traveled a short distance before Davies picked it up with speed. Refs must have thought the puck went directly from the falling Gaudette to Davies. I also had a rules issue last night. When UConn hit the post from 150 feet away the Officials called icing on UConn. I always thought that if the puck went through the crease that icing was negated? Has that changed? Refs reviewed it and still ruled it an icing.

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2017-18: Every Dog Has its Day

On the delayed penalty, play is not stopped until the non-offending team gains "possession and control" of the puck. I don't recall that particular detail but they had to have ruled that the puck merely glanced or deflected off the UConn player, which is not enough for possession and control. WRT icing on a puck touching the crease, that rule was changed some years ago.

Please spare us the “Woe is us. We really don’t have a chance” That's BUBS:( That’s short for bu bull shirt.
Your cubbard is well stocked, but feel that you need an excuse for losing that will also serve to cheapen the NU victory. bu won’t lose. NU will beat them. No sale, but nice try!

There was a ton going on with that play. Gaudette gets tripped, there was a a possible touch from UConn, Davies got the puck and went to the net, was clearly tripped, UConn didn't touch the puck but the whistle was blown, the puck goes in the net. It honestly could have been called anywhere from no goal and a 5 on 4 NU PP to a goal and a 5 on 3 NU PP.
