Northeastern Huskies 2017-18: Every Dog Has its Day

PC is a big test.

No slow starts.
The slow starts have really hurt us in some of those gms you mentioned. Seems like whenever the team get their feet moving early, not playing catch up, the results speak for themself. Just get a good start going tomorrow & hopefully bodes well for the wknd. PC (much like Maine), is legit.

Thanks for reminding me: Perhaps someone can explain to us why the NC$$ sets a starting date for practices with the coaches that is so close (within two weeks) to the start of the season? There are so many changes to a hockey team, (as opposed to Basketball), that must be adjusted to from one year to the next. The result of the "getting to know your linemate" period is that teams in October often bear little resemblance to the same team in February. Unfortunately (AFAIK) those early season losses are not adjusted or weighted according to when they occurred.

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2017-18: Every Dog Has its Day

To play devil's advocate other teams get to campus 2 weeks prior to NU and hold captains practice, "optional" practices, lifting sessions etc. just to get back into a routine and acclimated with one another. I think that was a big reason for the slow starts of years past. I never understood why NU didn't operate in similar fashion.

As for the lines gelling, I'm not sure it matters on this roster as NU has to be up towards the top of the nation for most line combinations used in my opinion as it's nearly February and the lines are different every week.

These attendance issues are being faced by most college programs these days. We talk about almost the same things here in Buffalo for UB. The competition for people's time and attention these days is fierce. Getting people to get up away from their phone/TV/computer to actually do something is tough. But the programs are expected to make an effort.

I talked with someone in the Athtletic Dept. today and discussed the attendance issue a little. I was told that new AD Konya will be making that effort - looking forward to seeing if he can somehow increase attendance.

after good start, (we had like the first 5 shots on net), just like that, friars go up 0-1 on a simple (turnover) clearing play by nu. primeau with initial save, no husky around to clear open rebound. hung him out to dry.

let's settle, set up & go. goalie doing his job, rest need to do theirs.

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2017-18: Every Dog Has its Day

PC with the better chances but fairly even overall. They are keeping our offense in check

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2017-18: Every Dog Has its Day

Yuck. That third PC goal it looked like everyone on our team stopped playing. PC just dominating right now

our inability to score 5x5 really hurting us... and some lazy skating (and shot blocking), there at the end of the 2nd, down in bit if a hole now against good team.

even with time... no crisp passing tonight for the huskies. puck just seems to roll off their sticks be it in the slot, on the blueline..everywhere, just sloppy.. & scoreboard thus far tells the tale.

hope they can regroup in the 3rd.

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2017-18: Every Dog Has its Day

I cringe whenever I see Kevin Shea referee an NU hockey game. The same Kevin Shea that penalized the textbook Josh Manson hip check in the Beanpot a few years back, and called the phantom Steve Quailer head check that turned a game vs bu. Bad things just seem to happen when he shows up.

bad enough to go down 1-2 with three odd mins left in the period; but just unacceptable the way they all stopped skating and gave up another one with 10 odd seconds left on rhe 2nd... ugly!

again, hoping they can regroup. hopefully start it tonight so they can fix it by tomorrow.

and just like that, gaudette gets us within one..
but primeau on other end plays carlos valderamma in soccer.. & gets burned... ha, not our night.

okay not valderamma... but chilavert like.. y'all get the point. big gamble by primeau & he got burned.

back within one again... oh well, let's see now..

gaudette!
...well, win lose, or tie tonight... least they regrouped & showed some life in the 3rd after that horrendous 2nd. good to see. dig deep!

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2017-18: Every Dog Has its Day

Disappointed but I'll gratefully take the tie, especially since the BC loss to UML slips NU into a first place tie. PWR damage was thankfully contained.

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2017-18: Every Dog Has its Day

Excellent job to fight back after a backbreaking goal allowed by Primeau. Williams gets a little luck, Sikura finds a WIDE OPEN Gaudette for the GTG. Ovetime was tilted towards PC more than NU, but a tie is a point ****-well-earned. Tied for first in Hockey East now. We'll see what happens to the PWR. Will post when more things are final.

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2017-18: Every Dog Has its Day

paging the 3rd period NU team for tomorrow night's gm in providence.
(no need for the one that skated ot or the other periods)

well, nice to claw back for a point tonight. way to regroup! kids get to keep their (cowboy) hats on :)

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2017-18: Every Dog Has its Day

PWR should remain fairly stable. Big 10 games going our way now but NCHC aren't.

Huskies controlled the play of the game from about the 13 minute mark of the 3rd period to the game tying goal. Really nice to see. After that PC took back over and had all the chance except one...the best chance of OT that we couldn't bury.

Really happy with the tie considering we were outplayed the majority of the game. Back in a tie for 1st!
