Northeastern Huskies 2017-18: Every Dog Has its Day

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2017-18: Every Dog Has its Day

Thank goodness I finally woke up. I had this terrible nightmare about UMass winning.....wait.....WHAT?

They suspended davies for tonight.

... at this point, we need to start becoming a consistent team regardless of wbo is in the line up. Davies will be a loss, no doubt but the offense needs to step up & play team hockey & get some quality shots in... not just in the 1st, but all 3 periods.

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2017-18: Every Dog Has its Day

much much much much better game today. Goaltending perfect, goals aplenty, penalty kill perfect, forecheck the best I've seen all year. Wish the powerplay clicked more than once but that's nitpicking.

Stevens is a great player, but he gets underrated being a teammate of Gaudette/Sikura. He's special. 4 points for him, 4 for Dylan. First career tally for Schultz, congrats to him as well. Great play by John Picking to make that happen.

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2017-18: Every Dog Has its Day

Way to bounce back! Being an NU fan, last night made me worry that it was a sign of things to come. I'm breathing a lot easier after tonight's performance.

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2017-18: Every Dog Has its Day

I only watched on line.. but what a difference a day makes. They looked horrible Friday and awesome tonight. That said even in an empty Mullins Center UMASS can still play as they had done when they beat Providence by playing hard, They are really improved as are Maine. However, I think tonight may have been the best game they have played. NU can have off nights as I witnessed 1st hand against UCONN, hopefully Friday was just a glitch and we can play more like tonight for the duration. Anyway 2 PTS puts us back on top!

and that UConn team beat Providence tonight, who is our next opponent. Typical HE... no easy games.

Hopefully kids build off tonight; dialed in for upcoming week of practices and let's not make anything easy for the Friars nxt wknd.
Good showing tonight, now let's get some momentum into Feb. GO HUSKIES

Currently 14th, and only .0004 out of 13th. Still in a good spot. This weekend is huge against a PC team that sits 10th.

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2017-18: Every Dog Has its Day

Huge turnaround on Saturday. Team looked great. Attendance was incredibly disappointing.

From my perspective on the stream I thought the lower bowl wasn't *terrible*, though the bar for lower bowl attendance is pretty low. DogHouse didn't look good and what I've been told from people in attendance it wasn't. Box score says just over 2100 for attendance, which is better than EITHER Maine game.

It's a travesty that the team is playing the best arguably ever, and no one, not students or general public, is coming to watch. It's revolting how anyone responsible for outreach doesn't think of ways to get people to the game. Konya has some work to do

EDIT: Looked up some numbers. NU is 10th out of 11 in attendance for Hockey East, ahead of only Merrimack, directly behind Providence. 36th overall in NCAA hockey. Only one team with as many wins as NU (15) has a worse average attendance- Northern Michigan, but their average fills 57% of their barn, whereas NU only averages 50%. Many teams that have fewer wins have better attendance than us- I stopped counting at 12 because I was getting bored.

I always dread Saturday night home games. They never seem to draw as well as a Friday game.

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2017-18: Every Dog Has its Day

I got in line to get into the arena with a group of students before 5pm to select home games and not all of us were able to get front row balcony. This was during the attendance revival of 2008-2011. Those years had both the Doghouse and Reverse Doghouse/Godhouse/Donghouse full nearly every game. Can't say the same about the lower bowl, but student attendance was not a problem.

It's not just us, attendance almost everywhere is down, but it seems to be hitting NU especially hard. I don't know how much outreach will help unless it comes from the students themselves. Get the athletic department to work with the most passionate students. I know when I was a student I would hear kids talking about the upcoming games and word would spread that way.

Is there any official measure of student attendance? I feel like it was good early on in Madigan's tenure as well. Just this season, last season, maybe the season before? Big games vs. rivals still draw a crowd though

Not to the public. When I ran the Doghouse from 2014-16, I had a really good relationship with Darren Costa and the rest of athletic marketing, we would meet regularly and he would fill me in on student attendance numbers. Those reports would direct me on what actions I had to take. Can't say if that work relationship still exists or how the current powers that be are trying to increase attendance based on performance to date.

Five Huskies on the mid-year CSS rankings for North American skaters.

Defenseman Jordan Harris (46), then forwards Tyler Madden (49), Riley Hughes (92), Aidan McDonough (192), and Zach Solow (204).

Safe to assume the top three get drafted. The other two are more up in the air.
