Northeastern Huskies 2011-2012 Season Thread: Year of the Mad Dog

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2011-2012 Season Thread: Year of the Mad Dog

Speaking of Kreider slipping in OT, what was going on with the ice in the 3rd?

Players were falling all over the place.

..well, there was no fog :).. so we got that going for us.

only half kidding.. more likely they didn't zamboni between end of the 3rd & OT.. ice was beat up in the corners. i suspect he just lost an edge..
as did the 4 Huskies in front of Rawlings..

Kreider falls down a lot in the corners. He is very aggressive with his cuts - more than anyone I've ever seen. You just don't see guys that skate like him too often. At his speed and size and the sharpness he cuts with, you're bound to lose an edge here or there. The amazing thing was how well he recovered on that play. When he puts in 100% effort he is freakin scary.

Obviously his skating is impressive (just look at him going back to the locker room after warmups) but it wasn't him.

After the 2nd intermission the refs went around to clean up the ice & I can recall multiple players randomly falling down (Cross in transition)

Over on the BC thread.. had a chance to view just the BC goals (thanks TTT20)..

I hope we spank Merrimack Friday :).

Hockeyeastonline.com shows clips of all goals in each game but you probably knew that..................and I hope you do too

I was surprised they switched ends considering they didn't zamboni again. There seems to be no consistency around the league for that. At conte I have never seen a switch before OT

Not positive, but I believe changing sides before OT was a new rule as of last year.

Manno is HE Rookie of the Week.
What if we had Garrett Haar too!!
From The Western Michigan Home Page about a former NU recruit.
"Western Michigan's Garrett Haar has been named the Gongshow Gear Rookie of the Week by the CCHA for his play in WMU's weekend series at Alaska on Monday afternoon.

Haar, a freshman defenseman from Huntington Beach, Calif., recorded his first career goal and an assist in Saturday's 2-2 tie. It was the first multi-point game of his young collegiate career. In Friday's 4-1 win he finished with a +1 rating and helped the Broncos kill off six of seven power plays.

The former Fargo Force star was drafted by the Washington Capitals in seventh round of the 2011 NHL Entry Draft. He is one of three freshmen to have played in all six games this season and has three points so far on one goal and two assists. He is also tied for second on the team in plus/minus with a +5 rating."

USHR seemed to indicate that BC/BU weren't all that interested, but who really knows.

They are rarely going to say that they really wanted a player that they've courted and lost. Never, never, NEVER lose face!

I should clarify. They reported BC/BU didn't offer Darcy. This was before today's news.

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2011-2012 Season Thread: Year of the Mad Dog

It's not that BC and BU didn't want to offer Darcy. It's that they had nothing available to offer him at this time. Until someone "defected" to the Pro's after the season, neither school had a scholarship to offer Darcy. With the way scholarships are committed two or three or more seasons out now, Darcy was in an unusual situation. Just ten years ago, Darcy would have had no problem being shut out of any school due to no available scholarships. (If Samuelsson hadn't left BC unexpectedly, Gaudreau may have wound up back at NU, too.) Darcy's dilemma was: Play all season and risk injury while waiting for a possible, but not definite, offer from BC, BU or Michigan OR take a scholarship now. Darcy wanted to play and go to school in Boston, so NU was (hopefully, waiting for this to be confirmed) able to re-obtain his commitment.

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2011-2012 Season Thread: Year of the Mad Dog

I can't see why BC would want/need Darcy. They have a bushel of forwards recruited for the next 2 or 3 years. Furthermore, BC already has our plum recruit, who they courted while he still had an LOI with NU (as did several other HEA schools).

bu also has plenty of forwards and probably thought Darcy was low hanging fruit (based on Darcy's own comments), who could be strung along until the team knew its early departures, annual kickoffs etc. Perhaps they were thinking in terms of a 3 for 4 deal, where Darcy would pay for the first year and would have a full ride for the last three - if he were to be allowed to stay.Frankly, this is just my speculation as no one really understands how they think in the executive suite at the greek.
