Northeastern Huskies 2011-2012 Season Thread: Year of the Mad Dog

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2011-2012 Season Thread: Year of the Mad Dog

Furthermore, BC already has our plum recruit, who they courted while he still had an LOI with NU (as did several other HEA schools).

My God, are you still whining about this? He contacted York, not the other way around.

When coaches leave, this happens. There's nothing wrong with it.

I agree, get over it, time to move on. Starting to sound like Cleveland last summer.

So just how good is Cam Darcy? I know he got an "A" rating from Central Scouting on the 2012 NHL Draft.

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2011-2012 Season Thread: Year of the Mad Dog

This was a summer read on him (back in July sometime)..

Toronto, Canada - The NHL will conduct its second annual Research, Development and Orientation Camp in Toronto Aug. 16-17, inviting the top 2012 NHL draft prospects to participate.

South Boston, Mass. native Cameron Darcy, a former standout with Dexter School before going to Ann Arbor, Mich. last season to join the U.S. National Team Development Program, is the lone New England representative of the 36 players attending.

Darcy, who helped lead Dexter to the 2010 small school prep championship game before bowing out against Kimball Union Academy (KUA) in double overtime, is a gifted scoring forward with offensive hockey sense and soft hands. In 37 USHL games with the Under-17 team, Darcy scored 9 goals and 13 points. He is projected to play a more prominent role this year with the Under-18 squad. The Northeastern recruit helped Team USA to the championship game at the World Under-17 Challenge last January in Winnipeg.

The RDO camp experiments with proposed rule changes, while also allowing NHL teams and scouts to get a quick look at the players who are projected to be the high achievers this season in their draft years..

Fantastic news on Darcy! This is a great day for Northeastern hockey, and therefore the world.

I've seen a few draft boards that have him ranked between 70-90, so a 3rd round pick next year. Obviously that can go up or down depending on his play this season.

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2011-2012 Season Thread: Year of the Mad Dog

glad to see the coaching staff working to bring in new recruits and get darcy to recommit. does anyone have a feeling for the quality of the new commits relative to those who decomitted? Its probably a little early to tell, but I'm wondering how the recruiting of this staff compares to the previous

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2011-2012 Season Thread: Year of the Mad Dog

Also.. (i'm assuming).. looking at the schedule here, if anyone wants to see Cam Darcy skate (that has not before).. he should be here on campus with the U.S National Under 18 program when we scrimmage on Jan 7. I am looking forward to that.

Switching gears.. UNH will not forget what happened the last time we played 'em. I hope the team plays with the same intensity they did BC.. just this time.. finish the 60+ minutes boys. Heck don't even look up at the scoreboard :).

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2011-2012 Season Thread: Year of the Mad Dog

So now can we get away from the recruiting stuff and maybe discuss something about this team. Like how come they stunk up the joint last weekend in the third period every night? Its not all Rawlings, Rawlings, Rawlings. The team in front of him had two bad third periods last week. Conditioning? Bad motivational speeches in between the 2nd and 3rd period? Dumb luck?

.. i will say this, when BC took their time out, i did not see Madigan say a word to the team (neither the assistants). They felt that (until that point).. the gm was going the way it should i guess. But then again later, when they reviewed the 3rd BC goal.. again, players were sitting on the bench or taking a knee on the ice.. Madigan was pondering (i'm assuming).. but did not seem to say much, if anything to the team. Would it have mattered?
All hindsight now..

I have barley seen Madigan say anything to players in the two home games I have been at. The assistants seem to be moving the players around on the ice and Madigan chats with the officials. I also saw what you did. That being said, he does not need to be like Cronin, always in the ear of guys, but so far, its like he is watching back there. Maybe its his style, probably still finding his way, but I also found it weird.

I was watching the vidstream and recall seeing something completely different. At first, the camera focused on the bc bench where one of the assistants (Cavanagh, I believe) was doing x's and o's on a whiteboard while Yorkie stayed silent. Then they switched to the NU bench where Keefe was also doing the x/o thing but then apparently finished and Madigan took over. No finger pointing or gesticulating--just talking to the team. Then they switched back to the bc bench where Yorkie was doing the same thing. Not trying to be argumentative but that's what I saw.

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2011-2012 Season Thread: Year of the Mad Dog

Moving on to UNH.. i'd like to see an improvement in the .080 whatever the (low) number is on the powerplay improve this wknd. We have to be able to capitalize on opponent mistakes.

I think the BC gm (harsh as it was).. proves that this team can skate with the best. We need to be able to finish games. Part of that is having a more efficient powerplay & give our goaltenders a chance.. especially on the road. I also hope Dongara and Ferreiro are back in the line up at some point. They will be hungry & will make a difference.

its the leagues worst PP vs the leagues worst PK. Something has to give!

Ferreiro will be back in at some point. Dongara i have my doubts. Maybe once a month he can play to rest somebody who is nicked up. After you put Ferreiro back in the lineup, lets say for Stone, who are you going to take out for Dongara? And even if you do pull someone like Vroylk or Tuckerman, the way Madigan shortens the bench, he would only get a shift or two anyway.

Seriously, on Saturday, it felt like we only played 6 forwards and 4 dmen the entire third period.

..and the fatigue toward the end of the 3rd & into OT was.. breathtaking (pun intented) :).
Seriously though.. he has to have a few guys rested & ready for situations like that.

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2011-2012 Season Thread: Year of the Mad Dog

UNH is still winless this year.. & they will be hungry for their first 'W'. I really hope they can get it against Union (the night before). The Dutchmen are a good team though.. seems like they haven't skipped a beat from last season. That means, NU has to come prepared.. play more like they did against BC.. than MC.

Maybe, maybe not. The problem with a statement like this is that 90% of teams in D1 (and probably close to 100% of teams in a major conference) will skate with a good team for two periods at some point in a season and be able to claim that. So in that sense, it really means nothing and becomes a hollow statement.

Sorry, it's just one of my pet peeves. Like when someone says "Team X is BEATABLE!". Well of course they are, the last team that was unbeatable was back when Ken Dryden was manning the nets for Cornell. And if that team already has a loss then by definition they are "beatable" and we pretty much know a team will not be going through a season undefeated so... saying that just means nothing.

Anyway, carry on. Just thought I'd point that out.

You made a good point. Then you went and messed up by saying that Ken Dryden was in net for Cornell's perfect season. Dryden had graduated by then. The goalie was actually the diminutive Brian Cropper. He had a fabulous defense in front of him (as did Dryden) and, unlike Dryden, we on to an undistinguished one year career in the minor leagues. Cropper was 9" shorter than Dryden and weighed 60 lbs. less. For some reason people confuse the two when referring to the "perfect season".
