Northeastern Huskies 2011-2012 Season Thread: Year of the Mad Dog

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2011-2012 Season Thread: Year of the Mad Dog

being out shot 20-8, late in second. UNH bringing it to the Huskies.

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2011-2012 Season Thread: Year of the Mad Dog

Hope all the alterations Madigan & staff are making pan out sometime January or so.. (or sooner).
Looking like a tough patch right now. Our opponent made some adjustments from the last time they played us.. us, not so much.
Hopefully we can turn the corner. Transformation is never easy.. that is what i see going on right now.

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2011-2012 Season Thread: Year of the Mad Dog

That was along drive to watch a big *** kicking after the lights went out at the Whitt the 2nd time I was hoping we could reschedule, at that time its was a 3 to 2 game with 18 minutes left in the 3rd. This team is in trouble and Madigan keeps screwing with the lines. It could have been 10 to 2. Anyway, I suspect that you won't see Clay in goal again, simply not as talented as Rawlings, clearly we need to find a goalie in a recruiting class fairly soon. I am not blaming the loss on Clay either as we lost every aspect of the game tonight but Clay is not as sound in all aspects of butterfly style with his small frame, he just doesn’t take up enough net. Outshoot 38 to 17! You wont win many or any hockey games with stats like that, it's clear to me that the issue is talent, I think we will be hard pressed to stay in the 6 to 8 spots in HE this year, so we have to face the fact that it's a rebuilding year to some extent, thus we won't be winning more than 10 HE contests, but like I have mentioned they are still fun to watch and can be competitive at times. My sources tell me that Madigan actually picked Cronin a few years back but wanted the job for himself, however he had daughters who would be attending the University and with the free tuition, he was worried that he could lose this job when he needed it most, so now with daughters either safely graduated or well on their way, we fast forward 7 seasons and he gets the job as a logical inside choice. So now the reality sets in it's not 1981 anymore! This team is playing similar style to those early 80's teams instead with heavy forchecks in the nutral zone but they lack a system and with our talent we need a system play badly to produce enough "O" to compete every weekend. Just my thoughts. Just got tix for the BC game at BC!

Rossi, normally your posts are interesting and entertaining - not as entertaining as the real Rico Rossi - but well worth reading. Until last night.

Let's take the easy part first. Perhaps you were fooled by poor seats and a large ice surface, but Clay Witt is not a small guy with a small frame. He is at least 6'1" and nearly 200 lbs. Last night he got off to a poor start, but had his D been properly positioned, Borisenok would never have been able to get the easy tap in. So a couple of goals were soft. He also had to make about 35 saves, many on grade "A" opportunities. I doubt Rawlings would have fared much better. His D simply missed to bus to Durham.

Now to your comments about Jim Madigan: Your source is wrong! And you were foolish enough to both believe him/her and not smart enough to check it out further before posting it. How insulting! How insensitive! I've known Jim since he was an undergrad with a bad temper (especially on the ice). I've watched him grow into a mature individual with exceptional people skills, who is liked and appreciated at all levels of the University. I know why he didn't want the job seven years ago, and why he wants it now. I don't believe it is my duty to share those reasons with you except to say that they had nothing to do with his job security at NU. Zero!

I, too, will be at BC in a couple of weeks. If you would care to discuss anything related to Jim or NU hockey, get in touch. Arrangements can be made.

agreed, Driving from boston to NH in a snow storm to get pummeled wasn't fun.

I thought we looked good in the second period. but thats the problem, we only looked good in the second (and a little after the lights came back on in the beginning of the third). Seemed like a lot of neutral zone turnovers and turnovers in our our zone...not good. Witt looked OK. He made some really nice saves in the third before that 4th goal, but his lateral movement seems very sloppy and at times he has trouble staying in the net when he slides from side to side (he's had this problem for a while but i think he's improved from what little i saw of him last year, Personally i'd still prefer a rotation to just Rawlings). The D definitely left him hanging on a bunch of shots too though. Power play was useless as usual. the first PP we didn't even get a shot off i think. Hopefully we can figure our **** out, and start playing all three periods as opposed to what were doing now. Definitely not going to win hockey games getting outshot 38-17.

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2011-2012 Season Thread: Year of the Mad Dog

Haven't posted in a while so I'll touch on a couple things that had been previously thrown out:

- Cannata is much better than Rawlings...on average. Rawlings at his best is the superior goalie, but I'll take Cannata every day of the week because of his consistent high level of play. It's frustrating seeing Rawlings stand on his head one night then let up soft goal after soft goal the next. Whoever said he was the Roberto Luongo of Hockey East was spot on.

- I hope the 10/21 game shut up the Merrimack doubters. I live in the area & my sister goes there so they've been on my radar for a few years now. It's really lazy to dismiss them as pushovers because of the loss of Cucci/Frenchy, their lack of hockey tradition and university prowess because they're a really good, really balanced team. I don't think the Huskies underestimated them, but a lot of people here did. Maybe you'll reconsider your predictions for this weekend.

- UNH sucked. Everything about it. And going to the Whit makes you appreciate the aesthetics of Matthews that much more. Having the fans right up against the glass does nothing for me and you lose a lot because of it. But (as previously mentioned) risking life and limb to see that game was insult to injury. At least no one got hurt from what I've heard.

Anyway, enough negativity, time to right the ship boys.

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2011-2012 Season Thread: Year of the Mad Dog

I've seen in several places now that the game at BC on January 14th has been moved to Fenway Park. That should be fun, glad to see the men's team finally getting in on an outdoor game. I'm not a huge fan of them, but the team will get more exposure this way, that's for sure.

Reports out today of a possible NU vs bc matchup on Jan 14th @ Fenway Park. Finally the men get a shot at an outdoor game!

is this some sort of a joke?

Not at all. There is no doubt the team (both teams, really, but does BC even need more exposure? :) ) will get more exposure. I mean I know it is not the marquee match up at Fenway this year, and that the novelty of outdoor games is wearing off, but I figure there will be a lot more press for this game than there would be for a "normal" game. Who knows, maybe NESN will even pick it up. I think it's definitely a plus for the program overall.

i think he was asking if "I've seen in several places now that the game at BC on January 14th has been moved to Fenway Park." was a joke.

It has been talked about on twitter, and Mike McMahon blogged about it over on warrior rink rat. I haven't seen anything official yet, but I haven't seen anything to suggest otherwise either.

whatever.. let's just not suck this weekend..
that'll get its own exposure :)

These games sound like great ideas, but they literally suck.. It's cold, it's expensive, you can't see anything, the ice sucks, and there is no crowd noise.

You'll be glad when it's over

Agree on all points. Way over-rated.

Sounds alot like a Patriots game down at Gillette in December.

Personally though, I still have my ticket stubs from the Snow Game somewhere in my house. It was cold, it was wet, it was a hell of a time!

ok so now that this is legit... what's everyones thoughts on what we'll pull out for a uniform?:D

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2011-2012 Season Thread: Year of the Mad Dog

They probably won't do anything special - just wear the red jerseys that they've worn for the Beanpot the last 2 years.
