Northeastern Huskies 2010 Offseason: Lots of home ice now

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2010 Offseason: Lots of home ice now

Interesting side note... While on vacation in Dinseyworld, the Mrs. and I ran into McNeely at Epcot. Never thought I would see anybody I know down there in that big of a place. Carry on. :D

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2010 Offseason: Lots of home ice now

certainly seems that way, is this confirmed bsaeagle or is this educated speculation?
Educated speculation. All of the other tourneys are pretty much filled up, and there's a slim chance of the Denver Cup since NU was at CC last year, probably won't be making the trip there again the very next year.

It's a bit worrying how little we've heard about non-conference opponents.

Ya, meh it'll all work out. FYI the Denver Cup field has been set, no NU.

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2010 Offseason: Lots of home ice now

When do they announce the official recruiting class?

If memory serves me right they did it about a month before the season in gonu.com last year, it seems to be pretty much set, maybe a late addition like Morra, but it appears we know all of our recruits coming in for the coming year.

Semi-confirmed, as others have stated, based on other threads and posts regarding all annual tournaments.

Educated speculation - Based on team schedules I've seen, no NC games against CCHA or WCHA teams. NU stays east all season long, but travels in the post-season to the mid-west for the NCAA regionals and the FF in Minneapolis in April, 2011. ;)

Cautious optimisim. Why not! :D

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2010 Offseason: Lots of home ice now

looks like Qualier is going to the Canadiens developmental camp. I really hope he doesn't leave, they are going to need his scoring this year

A lot of people end up going to development camps, I doubt he'd leave now and there doesn't seem to be any indication he's leaving. It's also good, he's certainly healthy enough to go to development camp, hopefully he'll be healthy come October.

Northeastern's 2010/2011 Team:

Nothing seems shocking here, Guizor coming back as a Defenseman is interesting. Looks like Cronin wanted another experienced player back there, since we'll likely be playing 3 or 4 freshmen each game. There's a lot of depth, 17 Forwards, 9 Defensemen and 3 Goalies. A few likely won't be playing much (Morra, Lipinski).

I doubt we'll see much of Rob Dongara, who is virtually a walk on. If it was up to me, you wouldn't see much of Silva after last year's selfish and nonproductive play. After that, we have 13 capable forwards. Stone (c/lw) and Reid (rw) will probably have to work their way into the lineup or rotate around. MacMillan and Pimm (both c/lw) should play right away. On D, Bitteto should play right away, possibly Eibler as well. Hopefully Muench is healthy so that he and Hewkin can lead the D. I don't know how well Guzior has recovered from his knee surgery. After counting noses, I don't think we'll need more than two freshman on D unless there are persistent and serious injuries of the kind that we had last year.

FWIW, IMHO, possible sleeper - Morra. Possible flop - Reid.

It looks like we have enough good centers that we can bench players who play stupidly, like Silva did. I'm very optimistic about the depth we have, it looks like we have a lot of good players lined up to play next year. I can't wait to see them start play.

That's a lot of stock in the new recruits, id love to see mclaughlin pick up on his first half production like his second half production his first 2 years. i still think we aren't strong at centers, macmillan seems legit, reid seems like he could produce. we don't want to put these recruits on pedestals before they hit the ice, though speculation is a lot of fun. i think zak stone might be a pleasant surprise but that's more a gut feeling than anything based on what i've read, we shall see.

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2010 Offseason: Lots of home ice now

I largely agree with Ryecheers, though I'm more forgiving of Silva and am hoping against all logic that somehow, someone displaces Hewkin (Oleksiak or the ginger, please). I think Guzior coming back at D is more of a reflection of how deep we are at forward than anything else and it illustrates that Cronin has confidence in the freshmen forwards. I can't wait to see MacMillan in person, same goes for Bitteto and Pimm.

...and it looks like our hockey team might be taller than our b-ball team.

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2010 Offseason: Lots of home ice now

I"ll say it every year. If five frosh each year turn out to be solid contributors to the program, it's a good recruiting class. I think we could say that about last year's class already. Unfortunately, probably the best one has already moved on to the pros. I'd agree that Bitetto is probably in the lineup from day one. Likely Eibler as well. Oleksiak will probably take a year or two. Only 17 years old at the beginning of the season is just too young for HE. I'd guess 2-3 of the freshmen forwards will be in the lineup each night if the team is healthy. But it might be a revolving door at the 3rd and 4th lines unless one of them (Pimm, Reid, MacMillan) can crack the top two lines.

Be interesting to see if Qualier goes to the first or second line and if Tuckerman is teamed up with him or plays the 3rd or 4th lines.

I'd love to see Tuck reunited with Quailer. They played very well together and Tuck really benefitted from the experience they had together in juniors.

I met Stone when he came to watch the first bu game. By the end of the game, he was so psyched that he would have committed on the spot, but we hadn't made him an offer yet.:)
What's a bit odd is that I've seen him described as being anywhere from 6' to 5'9" and 175 to 200 lbs. Who makes up these ht/wt stats? He looked 5'9"-10" 180 at most. Solidly built. Played very well for the EJHL champ NH Monarchs last year. Played in Cedar Rapids the year before with Garrett Vermeersch. Said that Mark Carlson (former Crowder asst.) never gave either much of a chance to play. Let's hope he does as well as Garrett did this year. Maine and PC were also recruiting him as well as some ECAC schools.

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2010 Offseason: Lots of home ice now

I am really positive on this class we have some size and depth, and while I would say that any program that losses 10 kids in HE would normally be in a full rebuild mode, I have to say I don't think we are. We get some size on D, and let's face it we could use it. The Newton and Student loses will smart a bit but I think Greg did the best he could. BTW have you checked the BU/BC signs, in my view, basically the pick of the National litter. I would say we did a solid B, of course it's too early to tell...Hope all is well with you guys.

Oh, all signs indicate that Quailer will be back. However, I guess it will really be up to him. My thoughts are that it's likely an after summer camp decision. I mean he has not skated in game conditions for nearly a year and the body may tell him what to do. However, I did hear from Albie that he says he intends on suiting up. Will he make a full finish to the NU career? I would not bet on it. That's just my take. If he has a great summer camp and a great season and the knee feels right..expect him to bolt. If the knee is quirky and in need of rest and on going adjustment, perhaps he sticks around for a while to pick up a degree.

Regards

I'm interested in what our OOC schedule is, it sounds pretty weak from the teams that have already announced their schedules without us on it. UAH seems to have some special game with a Hockey East team, I'm curious if that mystery team is ours.

Come to the Friends of Hockey annual meeting Tuesday evening and you'll get the whole story. You really don't need to be a member to attend - just a Husky hockey fan.
