Northeastern Huskies 2010 Offseason: Lots of home ice now

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2010 Offseason: Lots of home ice now

BC's last loss of the season came to us, maybe we'll play them early in the season and beat them, just like we've defeated the last two national champions.

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2010 Offseason: Lots of home ice now

Thiessen got recalled by the Penguins today, after Fleury did badly in the first game. Thiessen played the first game against the Albany River Rats yesterday in the AHL tournament as well.

Thiessen is only up there because Johnson has the flu. Has nothing to do with Fleury. It would take a minor miracle for him to see ice time in a game.

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2010 Offseason: Lots of home ice now

So looks like a lot of baseless predictions are going on in the HE 2010-2011 thread, so I was wondering where the homers think we are going to finish next year and what could make us go higher/lower?

I think we are at 6th, young offense shows promise, but it was useless for about half of our season last year. We lose Kraemer and Newton, but we get Quailer and some promising guys up front, but we won't know how they'll be (Quailer included) until October. Our defense is going to be weak, if Rawlings had left, I think we'd struggle mightily with a freshman goalie/defense. Our frosh defensemen this past year did a solid job, hopefully good coaching will get our incoming defensemen acclimated to HE play sooner rather than later. I think we are better than umass, uml, pc, and uvm (lost their top 5 scorers). bc and maine look to be the class of HE, with bu mc and unh after that (in particular order).

We could be higher if our defensemen play like this past year's freshmen and if our offense gels together before christmas  . We could also be higher if wade explodes (i think he has the talent to do so) and JD and vermy improve on solid freshman campaigns. I'm also looking for mclaughlin to play a full season instead of 5-6 good games towards the end of the season like he's done so far. I want to see Vrolyk develop into a solid defensive forward with enough offensive output that he shouldn't be relegated to a role player.

We could be worse if our d plays like freshmen and our offense doesn't come together right away. I fear that our poor defensive play could expose Rawlings's slow lateral movement further and expose his marginal rebound control. Injuries could also hurt us, but after this past year I can't see how it could be worse (for the love of god don't surprise me on this NU).

Frankly, I think a lot of our season rests on our blueline, as to improving, if wade/JD/Vermy make strides like I think they have the potential to do, then we could talk about home ice, but until I see that happen I think we are a 6th place team.

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2010 Offseason: Lots of home ice now

I think Northeastern could end up doing pretty well for itself, if only because a lot of Hockey East has lost a lot of top talent. UML and Umass have lost 53% and 67% of their goals scored, respectively. UVM and BU have lost a lot as well (46% and 43%), though BU will likely be able to make up for those losses pretty quickly, and UVM has some strong players, as well as a good goalie.

Merrimack could be strong, they certainly have some top players right now, and could make a run at Home Ice, but they're going to need to improve the disparity between wins at home versus wins away.

BC looks really strong, it remains to be seen if they suffer from any post-championship hangover that seems to have struck the past few champions. Maine looks really strong as well, and will probably be fighting BC for the #1 seed in Hockey East. The only unknown is their goalie, and whether they'll have to deal with goalie issues. As long as their goalie is halfway decent though they should be strong.

UNH will probably be pretty strong, but they did lose their starting goaltender and a Hobey Baker finalist, so it remains to be seen if they can easily recover from those losses.

I think part of the reason that Northeastern was so disjointed was that because the team was gutted by injuries, freshmen were forced to play roles they weren't ready for. As they got experience they started putting up more points, and playing better together. The Daniels Brothers and Vrolyk in particular did much better in the second half of the season. Rawlings certainly looked better in the second part of the season.

If next year's sophomores can continue to do better, and if Rawlings does as well as he did in the second half of the season (which I believe he will, now that he has to compete against a freshmen goalie coming in), and if the freshmen play as well as they look, I think we could be looking at home ice.

I'd also like to think that psychologically, the team is hungry to win after getting edged out of the Hockey East tournament, and going 0-4-1 in their last 5 games (with their tie being quite disappointing).

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2010 Offseason: Lots of home ice now

Any word on our schedule for next year? Looking from what the Maine and UNH schedules that were put up, it looks like our games with them have the same dates, are there any major changes? Hopefully we won't play St. Thomas again for our exhibition game.

Three BC players charged after accident with MBTA Train.
Samuelson, Wey, Milner.

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2010 Offseason: Lots of home ice now

The official USA Men's National Team Hockey’s Roster was released today. Only one amateur player; BCs’ great forward, Chris Kreider. Hope that he turns professional; he has out grown Hockey East!

Guh.well here is what we have of our schedule so far, anyone else have any incite as to who we play when? (these are only confirmed, so far looks like our league schedule is going to be VERY similar to last year's, just swap the home/away dates for home and away.)

10/8 @ PC
10/15 RPI
10/22 UNH
11/19 @PC
11/20 PC
2/7 Harvard
2/14 bc/bu
2/25 @UNH
2/26 UNH

Northeastern must have realized that the season was over, they posted a pretty thorough season recap yesterday. Also, the new GoNU website looks very good, it was cool to roll over the player's name in the recap and see a picture and basic info of the players. I also thought it was funny the last two times bc won the national championship their last loss was to us.

And in 2008 their first loss the fall after winning the championship was to us. Maybe again this year? I don't know much about the schedule though. I do doubt that it'll be the opening night game though (since we're playing PC 10/8-9, right?)

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2010 Offseason: Lots of home ice now

We're traveling to PC on the 8th (our home and home with them is 11/19 and 11/20), our first home game looks like RPI on the 15th, unless we end up having a game at home on the 9th. I haven't seen anything from Northeastern about our schedule, but from what other teams have posted it looks more or less the same, with some slight changes.

I'd read on here earlier that there were rumors of NU-Cornell at MSG, but it looks like Cornell's playing Colgate instead at the Prudential Center. Pretty stupid if you ask me, crappy opponent in Newark, bleh.

Supposedly there were some issues with the MSG plan and it fell apart, I'm guessing the schedule hasn't come out yet because they're still trying to finalize the OOC schedule.

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2010 Offseason: Lots of home ice now

The Beanpot is the only tournament NU will participate in this season.

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2010 Offseason: Lots of home ice now

certainly seems that way, is this confirmed bsaeagle or is this educated speculation?
