Northeastern Huskies 2010 Offseason: Lots of home ice now

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2010 Offseason: Lots of home ice now

I am bullish on next season but I have to ask, how did Vermont make it? Didn't they have one more HE point then us? Is the pairwise rankings now the oracle for the tournament selection...unreal.

"Now"? Pairwise has been the oracle for tournament selection for 15 years, and despite its flaws, it's better than the likely alternatives.

Wish to donate a table (eight seats) to the Dog House for the April 14th Banquet. Requesting that a leader of the Dog House contact Mark Harris at 617-373-2523.
I would prefer that the tickets go to members who attend the away games as well as the home.

Great to see RIT make it to the Frozen 4.. the head coach's been there about 5 seasons. Rochester is not an easy city to sell but the coaching staff has done wonders with that program.

Would really like to see Cronin & Co do something similar & get NU an addition to that 1982 Frozen Four banner (then called Semi-Final), at Matthews. It looks lonely hanging up there.. much lonlier than our Beanpot banners. Let's start to make it happen nxt season Huskies! :)

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2010 Offseason: Lots of home ice now

Only BC remains in their quest for a frozen four. Alas, we (My Family) were all pulling for St. Cloud State, this year. Where my son Tyler's summer coach of the Anaheim Jr. Ducks Developmental League is senior Hobey Baker Finalist Ryan Lasch (18-24-42) a top forward and all around righteous CA dude and a full inch shorter then even me... However, in the end Wisconsin was just too much. Good Luck Ryan. We all hope you get the Hobey Baker! If BC wins I'll be sick. However, torn with wanting HE to do well. Anyway, leaving to coach the 2nd half of the summer B 2nd federal league league in Germany Mannheim w/Falcons next mo but will try and be at the awards dinner in mid April. I am hopeful for a great NU year next year. It was a pleasure blogging with you all !

Mannheim Eagles .. say hello to Francois Bouchard & Dan McGillis from Husky fans. Some time ago (not sure now).. they both played there. McGillis was a great defenseman. Wicked slapsot. Have a nice time Rossi :)

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2010 Offseason: Lots of home ice now

Ryan Johansen, a recruit we had in 2009 who left us for the WHL is now a top draft pick. Also, Mark MacMillan is considered a top draft pick as well, so hopefully we can recruit him next year.

Also, Ludwig Karlsson scored the game winning goal in a shootout as well as a regular goal to win he Anderson cup in the USHL. Looks like he's a good prospect.

You may be interested to know that Brendan Walsh & co. tried very hard to bring Ryan to NU as a part of the first recruiting class. Desimone from UNH was also a primary target. We can't catch 'em all, but at least we're fishin' in the right ponds!

Perhaps NU should pass on Brodie Reid (3 teams in three years, and trouble with his coaches) and bring Ludweig Karlsson in 2010. Could be a classic power forward. Should be a 2010 NHL Draft selection.
If he now ready for HE then we don't have to worry for another year about Vermont stealing another of our recruits!
"Green Bay -- Ludwig Karlsson: Gamblers coach Jon Cooper, the USHL General Manager of the Year last season, is a big believer in the Linkopings, Sweden native because of his overall skill set, good speed and puck-handling ability.

Karlsson (6-2 3/4, 200 pounds), who patterns his game after fellow Swede Henrik Zetterberg of the Red Wings, also exhibits some grit along the boards. After spending the 2008-09 campaign in the Swedish Elite League, posting 5 goals and 12 points in 23 games, Karlsson became the first Swede to lace up the skates in Green Bay since Joakim Nettlebladt in 2004-05.
In his first four games this season, Karlsson has a pair of assists."

He was on a very good Green Bay team this year, they ran away with the eastern division. His stat line is OK, only 8 goals in 56 games. I'd be surprised to see him come in early, Reid's pattern troubles me a bit, oh well we'll just have to wait and see.

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2010 Offseason: Lots of home ice now

Reid seems like the kind of player who could put up a lot of points but take a lot of stupid penalties. McNeely and Vitale racked up 70 PIM in the 08/09 season, but also got a lot of points, so it'll be interesting to see whether Reid can make up for whatever troubles he makes by scoring goals. If he's a disappointment, we will at least have some depth to replace him. Karlsson will be great when he comes to Northeastern because he'll have an extra year of time to develop.

Except for an occasional fight, Reid hasn't been a heavily penalized player at all. He was used as an example by the coach of a Lincoln Stars team, who wanted to send a message and save his job. The fans, who bothered to post, had nothing but positive comments about his efforts, character and his relationships with his family and the other team members. (In Nebraska, having a tight relations with your parents is considered a sign of good character.) The comment was also made that he has a cannon of a shot, but that it was off net too often,

He sounds like the kind of player who could be very productive if he fits in well with his coaches and teammates. Let's hope that Cro & Co. can bring out his best.

Good point, a lot of people on the team have over 100 Penalty Minutes, his numbers are pretty small. Plus, with the numbers he's been putting up the past 2 years, Cronin can't pass that up.

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2010 Offseason: Lots of home ice now

Saw this over at the UML recruiting thread and thought I'd post this over here:

http://www.newenglandnordiques.com/?p=51

We picked up another 2 recruits down the line. USHR had an article about the Huskies recruiting, unfortunately I don't have a subscription, but the pieces quoted at the UML thread seem like good news: We picked up more USNTDP players, and got a Boston area player to commit early to us instead of BU or BC, a symbolic victory at least.

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2010 Offseason: Lots of home ice now

bu will be without D men Colby Cohen and kevin Shattenkirk , as well as forward Nick Bonino. Will Alex Chiasson be the next to take Pro money and run? The mutiny has begun!

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2010 Offseason: Lots of home ice now

Incoming Goalie Clay Witt is #17 on the final draft rankings, in comparison Parker Milner of BC is #26.

I know this isn't at all hockey related but out of sheer curiosity...
What the crap is going on in Matthews tonight?
