Northeastern Huskies 2010-2011 Season Thread

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2010-2011 Season Thread

All the good teams, the bu's, the BC's, use October as a see what we got month, and start to make adjustments accordingly. Heck, most of those teams use the first half of the season to get things figured out.

Maybe so, but they don't spin their wheels. If a team has make-up problems that are getting in the way of reaching their potential, that has a tendency to not go away—I say that as someone who's seen two great ND teams as well as an equally if not more talented team last season that was missing something and played 0.500 hockey all season.

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2010-2011 Season Thread

I agree with choog. Plenty of time and although very dissapointing thus far, jumping ship is for quitters. I've been a fan and supporter(when I have the cash flow) since 1987. I've seen a lot worse. Trust me. The talent is there, it's just not hitting. Probably the most raw talent offensively in a long while. I know that doesn't mean results but the players representing the school are solid players. They just aren't playing as well as a team as their individual talents might have us thinking they should.

I'm probably going tomorrow night and I'll catch another ten plus games or so this year. As choog said, we show up to games. And stay too regardless of the outcome. At the Beanpot 1st Monday two years ago, end of the game, maybe 2000 plus NU supporters, maybe 50 BC. Support needs to be there, win or lose!

..agree with you both (WDR357, choog). Will be there tonight.. and if NU Hockey were to move to the ECAC (controversial, debateable.. overall healthy for the program?? who knows ).. but we will be there then as well.

Ask Pats fans who quit in the 80s, heck even the 90s.. no wait.. ask Pats fans who didn't quit :). Our time will come.

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2010-2011 Season Thread

I think the point that NUSpeedRacer was making was that people that support this program dont seem to get upset when we have so much talent, yet drop 2 games back to back at home against two lower tier schools. I've seen it too, there's always the people that say, "oh well, they're young, it's early in the season, they fought hard out there, the goalie really looked good". It seems like everybody that supports this program wants to be friends with the coaches and team. Well, I'd like to win. Sometimes a true friend needs to tell it like it is. I think I'd like to see a little more outrage. Am I calling for Cronin's head? No. I think he's done a good job and is bringing in talent that far exceeds what Bruce Crowder ever did. However, that doesnt mean he or his team should get a pass. The coaching staff needs to be accountable and the team needs to take responsibility for their play and effort on the ice. Had that been done after the game last Friday, I doubt we would have played the way we did last Saturday.

Man, I missed you guys. First, wasn't Rico "living the dream" playing in Italy? Racine is in St Louis running a goalie clinic and I hear someone recently paid him a visit. Also hear both Cro and Rawlings were close to leaving this summer. Believe me, this is not how either wants to go out. This is a pretty good squad when healthy and focussed. They absolutely need to find some chemistry. That has been my observation of DU this season as well. LOADS of talent, but just not gelling yet (aside, my prayers go out to the Martin family for successful surgery. certainly puts things in perspective). It is hard to believe this is the same team that lost 1-0 (plus an EN) to BC. That BC team is absolutely amazing. Better than last year for sure. Absolutely dismantled DU. Honestly, who cares about NC games in October? Isn't that why HC,Bentley,Niagra, Canadian colleges are on the schedule in the beginning of the season and not in March? Having said that, they need to get it ramped up in conference. Beginning this weekend. There are no patsies in HE and I think you can all stop the "move to ECAC" talk. Under the previous coach (and with a football program), that might have been an option. The $$$ saved from football is being put to work with the revenue generating sports. And, what will put more fans in the stands: BC,BU,UMA,UNH,Maine OR Clarkson,St Lawrence,Union, Quinnipiac?
GO HUSKIES!!!!

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2010-2011 Season Thread

Happy Husky.. I am neither a friend of the coaching staff nor anyone on the team.. i think benching Cody Ferreiro last gm was a huge move for his (lack of) discipline & play on the ice.

Would he have been a factor in that 2nd gm.. who cares? Coach made the right move. Starting Clay Witt (as opposed to Rawlings who had already played Bentley) was also sending a signal to the big guy for his average showing on a few goals. I'd like to see if we have Justin Daniels back (from injury).. & a newly improved Cody Ferreiro tonight. Hopefully we'll get to see a different team & perhaps.. some winning.

And ColoradoHusky..the ECAC comment was a thought posted here some yrs back.. i was just echoing my sentiments on being a fan & showing up.. regardless where they play. I like HE & would love for the Huskies to make their mark in the league. I sincerely hope Cronin stays put here for as long as he enjoys the gig. NU is in a better position (L-T), with him as head coach. Just my opinion.

As far as Rawlings goes, he should be thanking his family members who convinced him to stay in school. 1 word for you: Robitaille. If he had signed with Philly and Bobrovsky had the season he is having, Rawlings would have been driving a zamboni in 3 years. Forget Philly. Focus on this year and see what happens next summer. If he's good enough, someone will come calling. Muse could play in the NHL tomorrow. get focussed Chris.

What's so bad about driving a zamboni? Isn't that everybody's dream? :P

yeah the real fans over at NU waited until the 2nd monday to leave early that year:rolleyes:

hey at least they didnt leave early during the 2nd monday last year, they just never showed up to begin with

As a CC fan, I really hate to defend DU, but they have been killed with injuries so far, even more than NU, and they also lost their starting goaltender (one of the best in the nation), along with their whole 1st line from last year due to graduation and early departures. They have played a tougher schedule than anyone in the nation so far, and aside from the BC series, they have more than held their own. It seems to me that NU has a lot more major problems right now than DU does in terms of chemistry.

I still don't understand why BC fans have to poke their noses into other school's threads. Typical. It must be like when you talk to someone who is a BC graduate and within ten minutes they let you know they went to BC even though you never asked.

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2010-2011 Season Thread

Fun fact: in the first 7 regular season games for the 09-10 season, we scored 13 goals. In the first 7 regular season games for this year, we scored 13 goals. We allowed 21 goals in 09-10 during that stretch, and in this season we allowed 16. Just some food for thought.

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2010-2011 Season Thread

Easily the worst game I've ever had the pleasure of watching. Something like 1 for 14 on the PP, with 5 5-on-3 opportunities. Also let up a shortie and McNeeley was tossed for contact-to-the-head-elbowing. Apparently you can sink deeper than rock bottom...

Maybe you should go poke your nose on theirs.......they lost again!.....LOL.

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2010-2011 Season Thread

OMG...Just when you thought it could not get any worse, It does! Nothing is working at all. 1 for 15 on PP or 5 for 54 so far this season. I know, I said, I wasn't going to go and I did give my tickets to some Nursing Students but old pal Rod Isbister was in town to nail down some lumber deals, so I went. Please! You should have seen the look on his face. I was totally disgusted. That was the single worst game I have seen in over a quarter century watching this team. There is really nothing to fix because seriously everything is broken! I say it’s still too early to break out the forks but let’s face it BU hasn't lost a game and is playing like a NHL team. So really we have to be objective. The good news is that the underbelly of HE are all playing fairly sloppy puck through the 1st mo. However, i am now questioning both the coaching and talent; I mean really they are so undisciplined. I am thinking if Jack or Jerry were in charge some of the kids who watch from the rafters would be finding time on the ice, lots of it!

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2010-2011 Season Thread

As an NU hockey fan for the past 15+ years, I cannot believe that eight games into the season people are calling for the coach's head. I have suffered through some horrible seasons under Crowder where there was little, if any, expectation of reaching .500 for the season and every road game was a loss. Believe it or not, the coach can only do so much; you don't see him out on the ice during the game, do you? Cronin has been successful recruiting players who never would have even considered the school a few years ago, instead of settling for the "second tier" players that prior coaches did. Of course it is disappointing that the team is performing the way they are, but at least this is happening at the beginning of the season to non-conference opponents. Hopefully this will be a learning experience that will help the team get better as the season goes along.

Well, I have to disagree with you. True, a coach does not score goals or make insane penalties when you’re on a 5 minute major, but a coach does control who suits up every night and some of these guys should not be suiting up. He does control the discipline on the ice by accepting nothing less in terms of tolerance of sloppy play, and if you have only been watching for 15 years you missed seeing me play too. Talent means nothing if you are not disciplined.

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2010-2011 Season Thread

First of all, I'm sorry I never got to see you play, I'm sure you were good. You are right, the coach can control who plays and doesnt and it is evident that the team is lacking discipline at this point. All I am saying is that maybe everyone's expectations are just a tad too high; remember, this is a young team that needs time to mature. I don't think the right thing to do at this point is jump ship and abandon the season altogether.
