Northeastern Huskies 2010-2011 Season Thread

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2010-2011 Season Thread

I understand that Hockey East is a pretty tough conference, but interestingly enough 2 of the schools you have mentioned have lost players to Oswego in just the last year. I know I'm probably comparing Northeastern to Oswego far more than I should. It is interesting to hear that Cronin has been stealing players away from some of the big name schools, perhaps there is hope yet.

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2010-2011 Season Thread

From Sebastian LaPlante:
“Chris Rawlings earned his 1st shutout of the season stopping 29 shots on Saturday night. An important stat that will make many of our supporters happy is our PP was 5 for 12 this weekend; which brings our year-to-date percentage to 16% after a dismal start.
Jamie Oleksiak continues to draw serious attention from NHL scouts with his play as he had another solid game defensively and contributing offensively with our 5th goal. Jamie was born in late ’92, yes the 6’7”-240# defenseman doesn’t turn 18 until December 22nd and will be eligible for the NHL draft in June 2011. A draft expert on NHL.com. recently predicted Jamie would be drafted 28th overall!

NU @ Vermont Thanksgiving weekend..

who will go 'wobble wobble wobble'..
who will go 'gobble, gobble, gobble'..

should be interesting to see if we can keep the (PC gm) momentum going on the road. I suspect it'll be close to a sellout regardless if student body is off, as the Gutt serves more as a wknd sports venue for more than just the students.
And yes, i was too lazy to start a gm thread in a short holiday wk.

Go Huskies.. let's keep it going.
Happy Thanksgiving everyone :)

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2010-2011 Season Thread

Rob Dongara ; HE Rookie of the week. It has been brought to my attention that we only have 7 healthy D men. Can a player be accepted at NU in time to play after the first of the year? If so how about Ben Oskroba from Lincoln USHl?

Oskroba seems the most ready to go: Haar was questionable to come even next year and Renz got back from an injury recently. Of course, we thought Oskroba might need some time to prepare for next year as well. If the coaches decide they will need another D-man for the rest of the year, Oskroba will probably be their guy, unless they try and recruit someone else, which seems kind of unlikely.

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2010-2011 Season Thread

Considering our last outing at Gutterson.. i am okay with the tie tonight. Considering we were down 2 goals... i am happy. Should be a good couple gms in Jan.

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2010-2011 Season Thread

Big 4 points on the table this weekend against the 'Mack. IMO, Friday's game is the biggest game we've played so far. Merrimack is not a very good road team and we need to build on our 3 game unbeaten streak. If we can grab a W on Friday then there is not as much pressure on Saturday.

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2010-2011 Season Thread

Forcing myself to "spam" everyone today (well the threads of teams I've shot this season at least).

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2010-2011 Season Thread

..where is everybody?

Anyway, solid team coming in to Matthews, Friday. Should be a good test at home after our last decisive 'W' against Providence. Too bad we won't have a home game until Jan 8th after this weekend! I am actually planning on going to the gm Sat as well. If we do get the 'W' on Friday (big 'if' as i sincerely believe 'Mack is very strong this yr).. would be nice to see a good NU contingent up at Lawler, Saturday.

I will be at both gms, regardless of Friday's score. Go Huskies! :)

Still around, maybe I'll see you at the Merrimack game, I'll be going there too. Tickets used to be $5 just 2 years ago, now they're $15. Should be a good series, if I had to make a few odd predictions:

-The top lines of both teams won't be on the scoreboard too much. Northeastern's going to focus on neutralizing the Da Costa-Barton-Todd line, and Merrimack will try and shut down our senior line that's been an offensive catalyst for us recently.

-Quailer will score this week, and get at least 2 points, and Justin Daniels will get at least a point

I won't comment on the series, other than I think it'll be the best series we've seen so far, and maybe for a while. Both teams in my opinion are more or less equal and play a similar kind of game. I'm very much looking forward to it, especially seeing the infamous Merrimack student section.

Yep, I can see how you could opine that they are more or less equal. NU @ 2-7-4 with 3 losses against Atlantic Hockey teams vs. MC @ 6-3-4, with 2 wins over BC and 2 ties with BU. Sure looks equal to me!

I was thinking the same thing...

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2010-2011 Season Thread

Renceb, i think he/she meant 'equal' in 'style of play', rather than W-L record; although i should just let him speak for himself.

You will find Northeastern taking Merrimack very seriously this weekend, though not sure how much that will help against your very talented club. I sure hope we see the 'Mack that lost to Providence in November, rather than the one that swept BC at home :).

Friday will be the big test for NU. Saturday will be your 3rd gm in 5 days & that might end up being a factor (in favor for us) who knows. Regardless, this is a key series for NU before the BU game & winter break.

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2010-2011 Season Thread

In GoNU5's defense, we've looked A LOT better the best few weeks than in the start of the season where with the exception of 2 games we looked dreadful.

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2010-2011 Season Thread

I was referring more to league play, we stand at 2-4-3, and Merrimack is 4-3-3. I was also comparing the two teams in terms of recent play, i.e the last 2 weekends, where Northeastern has markedly improved. In fact, other than the Providence game I'd argue Northeastern played good games in all those Hockey East losses. Maine fans commented that we played strongly, and we ended up surrendering leads in both those games, and we held BC off the scoresheet until late in the 3rd. Merrimack is definitely better than us at this juncture, but I feel Northeastern has risen markedly in terms of their game, and is capable of going up against the top teams in Hockey East.

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2010-2011 Season Thread

Why limit to hockey east play? I think non-conference play can reveal a lot about a team...

Losing three straight to Atlantic Hockey teams?....at home? Granted they weren't blowouts, HC in OT (they're a pretty good squad) but getting outscored 6-2 by Bentley and Niagara combined...at home?

That being said, I see your point that they are improving, and maybe they've turned the proverbial corner, solid play against PC and a solid outing up at the Gutt.

Sure, you can look at the OOC, but when it comes down to the end of the season, only Hockey East games count. We lost badly in our 4 OOC games because we have only one upperclassman d-man, a few upperclassmen forwards, and we played undisciplined, uncoordinated hockey. For whatever reason we played well against the Hockey east games. We've grown by leaps and bounds in terms of coordinating our gameplay from the Maine series on, and I'd argue we're poised to make some noise in Hockey East. How we play in this series will be a determining factor in whether or not we can actually make that jump into the middle of the pack.
