Northeastern Huskies 2009-10

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2009-10

Bergs,

I have to agree! No "Sky Falling," but they've got to get back to basics on Tuesday and prove themselves. At this point it appears that when NU gets a lead as of late, for some unknown reason, they start trying to be too fancy. They have to learn that that's when it's imperitive to go back to basic fundamental hockey! Keep on skating, passing, cycling the puck, take shots and get their capable players low in the slot in order to capitalize on slamming home those big 'ole "gift" rebounds that most of the other teams goalies so often cough up!!! The Huskies just gotta' "Get low & get dirty strong & bury those rebounds." They've already proven that when they play that way they're hardly to be beat!!!

Chip:cool:
Before anything, they have to learn to tighten up in there own defensive zone. Unless I've completely forgotten everything I learned in school (which is a possibility), it's a mathematical impossibility to lose a game when you have a lead as long as the other team doesn't score. Falling asleep in your own zone is a sure recipe to kissing a lead goodbye. :(

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2009-10

I'm just hoping we're not fading down the stretch. We haven't flat out won since the Niagara series. Since then, we fell a point behind Providence and down to 11 in PWR. It wasn't until recently I thought NU could get an at large, but we have to pick it up if we want the best chance of getting into NCAAs (didn't think I'd be putting NU and NCAAs in the same sentence this year :) ). We have TOUGH schedule closing out league play. Although it's good to know we're in the tournament and anything can happen once there, it'd be nice to go into it with some momentum. Winning tomorrow night could get the team confidence and momentum back on track AND help us in the PWR.

"Keeping Perspective".......

O.K., O.K., O.K.,.......Considering where this team was just a few short years ago, and where they have come to now, it's been a terrific year!!! If anyone would have said in September that...

A) NU women would have been nationally ranked most of this season...
B) NU women would be locked in a dogfight with only a few points separating the top 6 teams in HE on the last week of the season...
C) NU women would have locked up a playoff spot several weeks prior to the end of the regular season...
D) NU women would play for the Beanpot Championship...

That person would have been looked at like a....well less than the sharpest tool in the shed!!!

So now, with no pressure and a playoff spot locked for the second year in a row, NU women can look ahead with the perspective that it's all good from here on out!!! The so called experts didn't expect them to be as competitive as they were this season and going forward into the last weekend of regular play looking toward playoffs NU women have nothing to lose and everything to gain with no pressure!!! This senario should be feared by those teams expected to win, cause these hounds have proven they can skate with the best on any given day!!!

I really like this post. :)

I'll also add:
Sulyma repeats as Defensive Player of the Week

Junior Leah Sulyma (Inuvik, Northwest Territories) was named the Hockey East Defensive Player of the Week on Monday, taking home the award for the second straight week. Sulyma turned in three impressive performances last week, stopping 103 of 108 total shots, including a 43-save effort in the Beanpot final at Harvard Feb. 9.

Sulyma made 25 of her 43 saves in the second period of last week's Beanpot final, breaking the previous NU single-period record of 23 saves held by Marisa Hourihan and Chanda Gunn. The junior then turned in two big performances over the weekend against Boston University. On Saturday at BU, Sulyma stopped 34 of 36 shots and two of three shootout attempts. The next day, Sulyma steered aside 26 of 28 pucks, bringing her save percentage for the week to .954.

Sulyma's .948 save percentage this season ranks third in the nation, just .001 lower than teammate Florence Schelling, who ranks second. The Huskies are one of two teams in the nation (Harvard) to feature both goaltenders in the top 10 in overall save percentage.

With Monday's nomination, Sulyma has now taken home the Hockey East Defensive Player of the Week honor four times this season and six times in her career. Including Schelling, Northeastern's goaltenders have won the award on 11 occasions this season, including four of the last six weeks.
This is the 2nd NU program record she has set just this year.

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2009-10

Freak, I just heard about one of those signs on DHD. You guys are pretty creative ;)

If you don't mind, you could let "diving libero" know that the sign wasn't:

Snow...Outdoor Hockey...And The Eskimo Didn't Play? Come on?

It was:

Snow...Outdoor Hockey...And The Eskimo Didn't Play? Really?

Just can't see my way clear to spending $30 for an all-access pass just to post that.

I'll take it Chip, but I wish we hadn't given up a point there. And when is NU gonna start scoring again?!

chippy, I gotta hand it to you... you have to be poster of the year. Your prediction of epic parity was completely correct. I don't think anyone would have expected 1-5 in Hockey East would be separated by 2 points going into the final weekend.

Also, literally any of the top 6 have a realistic chance at the title. This sport has come a long, long, LONG way.

I love it.

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2009-10

Really rooting for you guys to win tonight and by win I mean a win in regulation ;) . GL!

Chippy you are the eternal optimist. I love it!

Here's hoping NU finally gets its 500th win after 8 tries haha! Also there will be a celebration for Missy Elumba's Humanitarian award today in addition to senior day festivities.
