NMU Wildcats 2010-2011 Season Thread

Re: NMU Wildcats 2010-2011 Season Thread

If that doesn't happen, both AD's should be tarred and feathered.

Northern has nothing to gain and everything to lose by playing Tech when it comes to NCAA tournament implications. The only reason to play Tech is for financial gain, but if you can't schedule Tech when classes are in session, then there is no financial gain and no reason to play a lesser program like the one at MTU.

NMU is better off accepting cash from schools like North Dakota or cashing in on Badger fans in Green Bay. Not only are series like these financially smart, but the Badgers and Sioux can help boost Northern's PairWise ranking.

I love the rivalry with Tech just as much as everyone else, but the program must think long term and not jump for instant gratification.

Re: NMU Wildcats 2010-2011 Season Thread

This weekend was a MUCH needed 6 points, and gave us a good boost in the conference race. We're now in a 3 way monkey knot for 4th place. If I'm reading this right, if the tourny started today we'd be the 4 seed with the bye, but I could be wrong.

Here's a little something to mess with your mind:
Next weekend we face Western. While they are usually a CCHA basement dweller, right now they are also in the 4th place monkey knot with us. While we're sitting at #26 in the PairWise, WMU is #11. If the national tourny started today, they'd be a 3 seed.
Yeah, that's a little weird to see. It also makes next weekend that much bigger, and an absolute, no excuses, must win.

Re: NMU Wildcats 2010-2011 Season Thread

Hmm, nothing from BWK about the Cat's sweep and how they're currently tied for 4th in the CCHA. Must be that horrible coaching that can turn a team around after a horrible weekend.

Re: NMU Wildcats 2010-2011 Season Thread

I would just like to thank EVERYONE for the compilation of video that seems to be taking over. Between Cat Chat, Wellens and the Mining Journal, FSU's fantastic video packages, and WLUC TV6 actually putting raw video from the Saturday game up; it makes following the team from a distance much easier.

It's a shame that local fans in the area (a much needed marketing source that needs to get re-tapped) need to get on the internet and find sources NOT affiliated with NMU for NMU Hockey news and highlights.

Sorry for the iffy camera work. It got deflected and I had no idea where the puck was going. Luckily I followed it into the net.

Re: NMU Wildcats 2010-2011 Season Thread

I'll be interested to see who lands the MSU and Penn State jobs. That will be a telling sign of how the CCHA and WCHA will react in 2013 when the Big10 conference is formed.

Sad to hear that he is retiring, but good for him in all he's accomplished.

Re: NMU Wildcats 2010-2011 Season Thread

So, is the plan for us to finish 4th and 5th so we can have another friggin' playoff series? ;)

Re: NMU Wildcats 2010-2011 Season Thread

Definitely recommend reading the interview College Hockey News did with Rick Comley. VERY honest assessment not only of what's going on at Michigan State, but they turn back the clock and talk about his NMU days as well. My absolute favorite part was a question about being coach and athletic director at the same time at NMU. His response...

Comley: I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. I would be AD in the morning and at noon go do hockey. One year, we had 13 sports and 10 made the NCAAs. I liked it a lot. I really enjoyed it. I liked that aspect. The last year or so I did not (enjoy it). We had a new president and what not. It's a different time now. Recruiting is more difficult. It's harder for head coaches to get out as much. There was a time you could do it more. Now, even being in a better location, it's more difficult to.

Thanks, Judy!

Western recap plus a sit-down interview with NMU President Les Wong. Dr. Wong discusses a variety of topics related to NMU Athletics including recruiting, televising games, big screens in the Berry, the possibility of NMU adding athletic programs, and more.

I hope that what is being reported about the shut down of your campus turns out to not be seriouse and who ever is responsible is caught and dealt with.
