NMU Wildcats 2010-2011 Season Thread

Re: NMU Wildcats 2010-2011 Season Thread

Gron is injured. No word on when he will be back.

The less points NMU takes from BGSU, the more it has to take from Michigan.

That's why gaining only one point last night was so devastating. The chances of Northern taking even one point from the Wolverines is slim to none.

Well, last night was a huge win, moving the cats up to 5th. Alaska is done playing, Ferris plays a much improved Ohio State team on the road, Lake State plays Miami, and Western plays Notre Dame. Should be a crazy end to the regular season in the CCHA. Spots 1-3 are still up for grabs, as are 4-9th.

Also: Great Site for post season chances and probabilities.

That site is quite inaccurate.

Re: NMU Wildcats 2010-2011 Season Thread

Michigan and Notre Dame will be 1 and 2. Miami is locked into 3. They can tie UM in points, but they would still lose the first tiebreaker, conference wins. Western, NMU and Ferris will either have byes or home ice in the first round and MSU and Bowling Green will travel. Next week NMU is at home against UM. Lake State has Miami in the Soo. Western is home and away with Notre Dame. State hosts Bowling Green. Ferris plays a Thursday/Friday series at Ohio State and Alaska has completed their CCHA schedule and will play against Anchorage.

The site also says Miami can finish 2nd, which they cannot. They could tie Michigan in points, but Michigan gets the #2 seed based on conference wins, which is the first tie breaker. They also have Michigan's overall record incorrect. UM is 21-9-4, not 21-10-3.

Miami can still finish 2nd? If they sweep Lake State, and NMU sweeps UM, both will have 55 points, with Miami winning the tie breaker with head to head wins.

Conference wins is the first tie breaker. Head to head is the second, or best record among all tied teams if more than two are equal in points and conference wins.

Here are the tie breakers from the CCHA Website:

CCHA Tiebreaker System

The bullet points in explaining the Tiebreaker System are as follows:

Conference Wins
Best regular-season winning percentage against the other team(s) tied for position
Total goals for and against each team in contests between (among) teams tied for position in regular-season play
Best winning percentage of the teams tied for position against the remaining highest-ranked CCHA teams
Coin Toss

Note: Shootout results will not be used to break ties in the standings for playoff positioning.

That is the dumbest tie breaker setup. I would imagine that head to head wins would count more, but the CCHA has never really used much logic.

Re: NMU Wildcats 2010-2011 Season Thread

The object of the game is to win. The team that wins more gets the tiebreaker.

Re: NMU Wildcats 2010-2011 Season Thread

Well the Cats need to win one for sure, It won't be easy but it won't be the hardest game the played this year either as Michigan is 5-6-0 on the road

NMU isnt the best home team either, and with it being spring break this weekend, the Walmart Wolverine fan base might out number the Cats fans.

Dear Northern,

Please beat Michigan at least once for us this weekend. I know that you can play well. You got a win when we got over 50 shots on goal so I know you got the skill. We would be your best friends if you can accomplish this. Thanks pals

Sincerely,
The Notre Dame Fighting Irish Fan Base
