NMU Wildcats 2010-2011 Season Thread

Re: NMU Wildcats 2010-2011 Season Thread

Any league changes will not occur for at least another two years. NMU will have a 28 game CCHA schedule, with non conference matches against Tech, Wisconsin and St Cloud next year.

I also believe that you said in two years we have games @ Saint Cloud, "Home" vs. Wisconsin and @ North Dakota.

So, MTU home/away, at Wisconsin, home vs. St. Cloud?

What part of the season will each series be played?

I'm not certain of the dates or the sites of the series, although I do know that over the next two years NMU will play St Cloud in both Marquette and St Cloud, and Wisconsin in Madison and Green Bay. North Dakota is slated for Grand Forks in the 2012-13 season.

Thanks for the info.

Anyone know what to expect from the Badger transfer Thurber? Is he a grinder type or does he have a scoring touch?

Along with him I look forward to seeing Ryan Aynsley of Castlegar B.C. (verbal commit), Dylan Walchuk, and Gregor's brother Gerard (if he's still coming).

The entire incoming class looks intriguing. I think the Cats will be alright for the next few years.

I'll venture a guess that Tech will either be at the start of the season or over winter break.

Last time we played NC at Madison was over winter break. Not sure if that will be played then, or the start of the season.

I'd say the home game vs. Saint Cloud will be the 2nd week of the season.

He's a gritty player, but I don't think he's the kind of player your fan base wants to rally around.
Eaves had to deal with another personnel issue deeper into the season. Sophomore center Matt Thurber was arrested Feb. 8 and charged with misdemeanor battery and disorderly conduct, circumstances that led to him being suspended as part of the UW student-athlete discipline policy. Dane County Circuit Court records show he pleaded guilty to both charges March 23.
According to the criminal complaint, Thurber choked a woman described as his former girlfriend and, at one point, threw her over his shoulder and threatened to throw her off his apartment balcony on the sixth floor.
Eaves subsequently dismissed Thurber from the team Feb. 12, telling him he could remain on scholarship until the end of the season.

I knew of the off ice issues with Thurber. Hopefully a change of scenery, being around Walt, and being a couple of years older will change his life for the better.

Hopefully he does change his habits because it's certainly hurting his image, but hopefully the risk doesn't come back to bite NMU. A lot of programs wouldn't take the chance.

Re: NMU Wildcats 2010-2011 Season Thread

I looked at some of the stats of the incoming players, looks like we got some players who know how to score. Most of them were averaging more than .5 points per game. The D coming in is good, Baker seems to be the "offensive Defenseman". Seckel also knows how to score he was easily top ten in the USHL a year ago. I think our offensive struggles might be a thing of the past.

Go Cats!

The final episode of Cat Chat with Tyler Gron, Carter Kopach, and Dustin Brancheau.

The Gron interview is at about 5:30 into the video.

This years Freshman class was hampered with injuries, but Epp, Viger, Higby all looked promising. Kesti has a lot of potential and hopefully will recover and be back next season on the blue line. Baker is listed at 6'6, and also at 6'1...so Im not sure which one is accurate but he does have some scoring potential that will hopefully take over where Gussy left off. There is a nice balance of senior leadership and younger talent.

With Chris Pronger expected to undergo hand surgery, the Flyers needed another blueliner. Gustafsson has been called up to the Flyers. Pronger is expected to be out 4-6 weeks.

I still have a hard time not being selfish and wishing Gussy and Olver were still with the Cats and making their way to the Joe this week.

I think your right if they would have played out their senior seasons. Next year I'm sure your Cats will return to form and at least give me one team that i can truely cheer for down at the Joe. Good luck next year from the east end.

Re: NMU Wildcats 2010-2011 Season Thread

If anyone is following along with the Alumni (which a few of us have in USCHO's alumni section), Gustafsson and Oystrick were called up by their respective NHL clubs today, giving NMU four players represented in the NHL at the same time.

Last time four (or more) Wildcats were representing in the NHL in a season was 2000-01 (Drake (Blues), Kochan (Lightning), Vigier (Thrashers), Ward (Devils), Werenka (Flames)).

This may be the first time that four Wildcats were in the NHL at the same time. I don't have the stats (or the time) to look that one up though.

Re: NMU Wildcats 2010-2011 Season Thread

Any word on if or when Greger Hanson is planing on signing?

Great to here about the 4 NHLers!

Santorelli is the 4th in the NHL right now.

Just stopping by to leave a quick FYI for NMU fans. Although the Colorado Avalanche is on its way to losing for the 20th time in its past 21 games, right now Calgary leads the Avs 3-1, Mark Olver scored his first NHL goal for the Avs earlier this evening.
