NMU Wildcats 2010-2011 Season Thread

Re: NMU Wildcats 2010-2011 Season Thread

Sad to say, but since the village idiot has gone back into the deep dark hole where he belongs this board is dead.

Re: NMU Wildcats 2010-2011 Season Thread

Kesti is still out, and Seckel has an ACL injury and is out for the season on will be redshirted.

Re: NMU Wildcats 2010-2011 Season Thread

Hate to be the bearer of bad news but just got this in my e-mail box...

NMU Faculty and Staff,

I have the sad, sad duty to inform you that we lost another member of the
Wildcat athletics family with the death of Dave Faiella, sports information
director, who passed away this afternoon (Wednesday, Dec. 1). Dave came to
NMU from Findlay University in 2001 as the NMU assistant sports information
director. He took over the duties as head SID in 2003. Those of us who had
the opportunity to work closely with Dave will remember him for his calm
demeanor, work ethic and dry sense of humor. While he has passed way too
young, he lived a very full life having traveled extensively and indulging
in his passion of surfing every chance he could. At this time, we do not
have any funeral or memorial service details, but will pass along
information as it becomes available.

Steve Reed

NMU Associate Athletic Director

I knew Dave when I was a student and also later on since working at NMU as he's part of our union and see him at our monthly meetings. Can't believe he passed away. Sincere condolences to his family. He will be missed!

Wow! :( Such terrible news. Prayers to Dave's family.

I remember getting to know Dave as a student too. He remembered me every time I would make it back to town for a game. Such a loss to the Athletic Department as Dave did much more than he needed to in his role.

Simply terrible. I had heard he wasn't doing well before you guys came to BSU, and was hoping he was doing better, since I didn't get to say hi when NMU was here. I echo condolences to his and the entire Wildcat families...

No official cause of death yet, but TV6 says that Dave suffered a heart attack last week, so I would assume it's related to that. He was only 49 years old. How sad :(

EDIT: Dave suffered a major heart attack Nov. 18 and was just released from the hospital yesterday morning. A day later... really sad :(

Yeah, I had heard through the grape-vine about his heart attack, but hadn't been updated on his condition. Very sad news today...

Re: NMU Wildcats 2010-2011 Season Thread

For the last 9 years Dave Faiella was almost an instution himself at NMU. He did so much with limited resources for the Athletic Department. His last year was plagued with health issues but you wouldn't know it because he still had the same sense of humor and smile each time I saw him around town or at the arena. I will miss having Dave around. I thought he would be here forever and faced with his untimely death I feel we are all cheated. He had much more to give.

May god bless his soul and his family as well.

P.S. I will never forget his renditions of "Kung Fu Fighting" while doing karaoke at Flannigans...complete with arm chops and leg kicks!!! He was a real piece of work and quite unique!!!

Re: NMU Wildcats 2010-2011 Season Thread

By this point, pretty much everyone has heard that Dave Faiella, the Sports Information Director at Northern Michigan University has passed away at 49. He was a dear friend and meant a lot to not just me, but hundreds of people. Out of all the staff and faculty at NMU, he was the one you could count on whether you needed someone to talk to or to get you some information. The amount of respect shown for Dave from everyone I've ever talked to, whether it be other SID's, to Wildcat fans and students, to his coworkers in the athletic department showed what kind of positive impact he had. Granted he would get picked on for his voice sometimes or his dry humor, but he was able to verbally jab with the best of them.
So for the Cat Chat Radio show on Friday, we're going to record people's stories about Dave and share them with the world to show what a special man he was. If you have a story or just want to pass on the condolences, get a hold of me ASAP and we can set your story to go over the air. Call Brice at 906.235.4958 if you're out of town, we can record it. Afterward, the individual tracks will be placed together and given to family and friends. Spread this around, as we all knew how great of a man Dave was.

This is indeed very sad news :(

My thoughts and prayers go out to the Fiaella family...

Re: NMU Wildcats 2010-2011 Season Thread

Adding my condolences and prayers for Dave's family. From what I knew of him, he was a great guy and a true fan of the school he was working for. It's going to be tough for Northern to find someone who loves NMU sports as much as Dave did. Today is a sad day for NMU sports.

I urge anyone else on these boards with NMU connections to contact the athletic department about the possibility of having a benefit in Dave's honor.

Re: NMU Wildcats 2010-2011 Season Thread

Dave was a guy who truly gave his all to NMU Sports. He will be missed by so many. My deepest sympathies to his family and his many friends.

Re: NMU Wildcats 2010-2011 Season Thread

I last saw Dave during the BG series. He was talking to me about the baseball stadiums he was planning on going to next year. That was something we always talked about the 2-3 times per year that I get back to Marquette. Amazingly, we were even sitting in the same section at the same game at Yankee Stadium in 2008; both of us happened to make trips out East for baseball in the same week that summer.

Aside from the baseball fan that he was, I will miss him as SID. Even during the stress of the game, he was always laid-back and in control of the ship. He always treated each person in the box as if they were the most important person there.

Dave will really be missed.

I met Dave while I was a student; he told me he liked the Shirtless routine. Offering sincerest thoughts, prayers, and condolences to his family tonight. :(
