NMU 2009-2010 Season

Re: NMU 2009-2010 Season

Should be a good weekend of hockey. Really, it's anybody's tourney to win. Minnesota has won 4 of 5 and are always tough at home. If the Cats perform like they did against MSU, at Alaska and Notre Dame and against UNO, they certainly could bring the hardware home.

Are you guys spending new years eve in Minneapolis?

Re: NMU 2009-2010 Season

Are any Northern fans from the board coming to the Twin Cities for the tournament on Saturday and Sunday? I'm obviously biased but Mariucci is an nice arena to see. Hopefully some of you make it.

Re: NMU 2009-2010 Season

I will always support the school and the team, just not always the coach. If we make the playoffs this season then I'll be flying see them play where ever that may be. I'm almost beginning to think that BWK is a second moniker for someone else that posts here or perhaps an MTU fan.

Don't get me wrong, I always support the team and would love to be in a position to be able to fly to games. I'm right out of school (graduated with a writing degree in May) and I'm working at a community newspaper making a little over $21,000 a year. Flying back to Marquette for a game means taking at least 2 days off work and spending $700-800 on airfare for my wife and I. When you throw in hotel stay and food, it's easily over $1,000. For me, that is 3 weeks worth of pay. Now, if the team was fighting for a division lead or an NCAA spot, I could possibly justify spending that money. When the team is in the middle of the pack for the CCHA, I feel less motivated and able to spend that money.

Thus, in your position, I would say that you should jump at the chance to see NMU at UNO, as this will be their last series played as CCHA rivals. And, they're (practically) in your backyard.

Support the alma mater, and proudly wear the green-n-gold in Omaha. :)

As for the hampering of fan travel question; I would say no, it really hasn't diminished much. There is the usual ebb and flow as alumni move toward areas where NMU plays road games, and alumni move away making it harder to get to games. If anything, there seems to be an uptick of travel this season (at least a half dozen fans even went to _airbanks, Alaska to see the team play ). If the economy is tightening anything, it's the local attendance.

*edit* Win or lose, at least NMU won't be embarrassed like MTU was at the GLI.

Oh, BWK: Can you please spend a few minutes skimming the MTU threads (their season thread, the Fire Russell thread, etc.)? There may be a bigger bandwagon that needs you to lead the charge. :)

HOLY COW!!!!!!!! I guess my Dad will have to put a Paperbag on his head (MTU 74') and can see Champion Gundloch spend less on MTU Hockey......

EVERYONE HAVE A GREAT NEW YEAR!!!!!!!

I'm taking the rest of 2009 off........................

LETS GO CATS!!!!

Oh, I will be at the Saturday UNO game, there is not a question about that. Living out here, a 7 hour car ride isn't terrible and won't keep me from watching the Cats. I'm hoping I can meet up with some other NMU fans and hangout at (or after) the game. I'll be missing the Friday game because my wife works until early afternoon and with the time zone change, there is no way I make it to Omaha in time for puck drop.

Also, When I read that MSU-Tech score for the first time I had to open the boxscore just to make sure there wasn't a typo. 10 goals is just....wow. Glad I'm not a Tech fan.

I wish, but I spent a bit more than anticipated in Detroit this weekend.

You know, I'm not one to say fire the coach... but I was there this week for the 10-1 prisonraping, and I'd say it's somewhat justified to call for some kind of change up there.

Edit: you all know he's over there not helping our "NMU grads/students are highly unintelligent" stereotype, right?

I wish I could go to the tournament, but of course when NMU visits my new home of Minneapolis, I'm back in the U.P. for the holidays

Good Luck, 'Cats!

Re: NMU 2009-2010 Season

We all have skeletons in the closet. I've accepted my past transgressions and moved forward. I'm looking forward to some good hockey this weekend, and I'm thrilled that I get to see the boys play on the BTN!

Go Cats!

Big Televen Network doesn't show any of the games this weekend... You would need to find Fox Sports North (I think that's the Minny one) or Fox College Sports Central... And that is only if NMU faces Minny in the 2nd game...

Re: NMU 2009-2010 Season

I live about as far from Omaha as you can get and still live in Nebraska, so BWK was only about 7 hours off on my drive.

BWK is kind of a giant tool, but now he has me wondering if the somewhat lackluster season combined with the bad economy has hampered fan travel to away games? Do any of you have any insight into this?

I'm a giant tool? Great, the last thing we need on this board is another soft hockey fan. We need more men! You should just go away. This board isn't very welcoming to newcomers. Just look how red my reputation meter is. I'm sure if you make one mess up about hockey that your will be glowing just the same.

Welcome to the USCHO hockey forums where a bunch of elitists come to talk about hockey and turn up their noses at others.

Wow! Cryin' like Tebow. Not all newer posters have their red lamp all lit up. In fact, when I look through the threads, very few who have been on two years or less have the red stripe. Very few. There are no "elitists" here. Just alot of people who don't agree with you. And it seems that those who don't share your views are either soft, elitist or, in my case, hopeless homers.

You wanna talk soft? Soft is making accusations and demeaning reputations while staying safely hidden. You're like the little guy who skates around the rink hacking and whacking and running his mouth, then hiding behind the goon when it comes time to drop the gloves, or, if the goon isn't available he simply turtles. That's what soft is. People who respect the game, respect other fans and respect other people are far from soft. I've been in the game a long time. I've made many friends who have played for, worked for, coached, cheered for other teams. The cheer like crazy for their team. I cheer like crazy for mine and after the game, loser buys the first round. No blood shed, no riots, no mayhem. Just a strong passion and respect for the game.

I haven't been on this site very long and I don't have my reputation all red. I just don't go around spewing bull **** and make my team, school, and fanbase look like idiots.

I still haven't heard your response to dave's offer to debate him on air. If your SO right and your message is SO important, why not give it a go. Are you scared you're going to look stupid? Scared to have everyone know who you actually are?

Yes indeed, you ARE a giant tool.

This board in EXTREMELY welcoming to newcomers, but will routinely call them out when they act poorly.

Your user name says it all. You only joined the forum for the purpose of stirring the pot against Kyle. No matter what the topic is, you hijack the conversation back to another rant against Kyle. Stuff like that earns you the reputation as a tool.

Sieve Sieve Sieve. 'diva is a great big Sieve. :D

I'm confident you would have multiple places to stay for free but I understand if you can't make it.

I'm sure you had a great time at the GLI so it was worth it.

You're welcomed to go cry about it and rant and rail about it over on the GLIAC forum over at D2F.com. The Ashland fans have all gone into hibernation for the winter and we could use some entertainment there.
