NMU 2009-2010 Season

Re: NMU 2009-2010 Season

After further review of the video, I cannot understand the decision of the CCHA. The hit was face to face, shoulder to shoulder. The term "blindside" is grossly inappropriate. The reason Cooper didn't see Kaunisto was because he wasn't watching what was in front of him, rather he was watching the puck he had dished to his right a split second earlier. Upon impact, the Laker forward, who stands about 5" shorter than Kaunisto, came off his feet, spun and landed face first on the ice. There was no elbow thrown. Kaunisto's arms were tight to his bid. No one felt worse than Ray about the result of the hit. The referee even told Kaunisto it was a clean hit. My personal feeling is that the penalty was assessed by the league more because of Cooper's jaw being broken, than for the actual hit itself.

Exactly the feeling I'm getting from this. And it's only because he broke his jaw landing.

Re: NMU 2009-2010 Season

This year at the break:

7-8-4

Last year at the break:

3-12-3

We want better, but don't forget what last year was like.

I was at the game like I am at most games. If you deny that Kaunisto put a little extra effort into delivering that hit, than you are a hopeless homer. It was a hard hit, but it was also a somewhat dirty hit. I don't really think it deserved a suspension. Trust me, it was a hit delivered out of anger and frustration. There are a lot of guys on the team who are frustrated with the way the season has gone so far and we wont just sit back and take it. I like seeing Ray out there hitting, but this one was just a little too far.

Yeah, he shouldn't try to hit him hard. What was he thinking?

Blindside hits are not necessarily cheap hits. I don't know what this one was since I haven't seen it, FTR...

If you're at the games, you should show yourself. That way, we know who you are. Most of the posters know each other anyway, but it would be nice to put a face to the shit spewing.

Forget it Diva. A twat-waffle like BWK, he doesn't have the balls to reveal his ugly mug.

True. Most of these types do their chest thumping behind the mask of anonymity, but since he has such a noble cause, I thought maybe he could learn to fight without it.

And rob himself of his powers of anonymity?? that's like Samson cutting his own hair. He does that, he will loose all of his intraweb muscles and be just another pasty geek posting on the MB here.

If you're going to call for the firing of a coach, you should do it out in the open, with a big sign.

Re: NMU 2009-2010 Season

Just a question out of left field maybe davyd can answer. Will everyone on the team return to Marquette after Christmas first to bus to Minneapolis or will some just head directly from home to the Twin Cities and meet up there?

Re: NMU 2009-2010 Season

The team will return to Marquette for a few days of practice before heading to Minnesota.

Thanks for the reply.

It was a pleasent surprise to see Smith back in the lineup. Hopefully the whole team can recharge their batteries and get off to a good start for the second half of the season.

Since the CCHA Suspension thread was deleted, here is the Kaunisto "hit."

Re: NMU 2009-2010 Season

Wow, looks like Walt has lost complete control of this team. We've got players getting suspended from the team. I heard a rumor that last year some players on the team were involved in a theft from WalMart.

Why oh why does NMU let Walt run this program into the ground?

Walt needs to be shown the door. He can't build a good hockey team and now it seems he can't even develop good character in those he coaches. Ray should definitly have been suspended for the hit, it was dirty and it was uncalled for. The team has more than its fair share of thugs and drunks and Walt needs to be held accountable.

I tended to agree with a lot of what you said before the season started (and even right at the beginning), but this is out of line. Even I wouldn't say something like this. We aren't having a great season, but we are hanging in there. If we go on a streak like we did last year in the 2nd half we'll probably finish in 2nd place. Thugs and Drunks? C'mon, we're talking about our hockey team, not Chris Henry. Even I'm growing tired of this crap that you're spewing.

This day, I thought would never come. But thank you.
