Nice Plant #7: Get me off of this planet

You implied that I had a mental illness based on a few posts and basically trivialized mental illnesses you hypocrite.

There was never any evidence that his Head got banged repeatedly on a sidewalk lmfao.

Being punched into the sidewalk is nearly a distinction without a difference. And, yes, the head injuries show this.

Re: Nice Plant #7: Get me off of this planet

They show that he had a black eye and his nose might have been broken lol. If his head was repeatedly bashed against the sidewalk he would've had a lot more damage than that.

The problem is if the jury thinks getting punched in the face one time is enough to think he MIGHT have felt he was in danger of great bodily harm then they can acquit.

I did imply you might have a mental illness. You took it as an insult. Why is that? Is a person with a mental illness "less" of a normal person? Again, I ask you this.

If you don't have one, I can only assume you are dense enough to not have any common sense, as you refuse to acknowledge basic facts that have been proven, yet you try and dis-prove.
Just stop digging yourself a bigger hole dude. Yes I took it as an insult, that's because I don't and because you're trivializing actual mental illness based on the fact that you lack basic comprehension skills.

Maybe he will once you stop hysterically sobbing over the graves of the two lowlifes who were killed in these trials. No one should be protesting the acquittal of a man who allegedly (with no evidence) killed a drunk driver who had just freshly committed the vehicular manslaughter of his two boys, with anywhere near the vehemence and insistence upon calling it "vigilante justice" that you have. But you're just pregnant with celestial fire over the eeeeevil GUNS!1!!!1 and those dumb Southern hicks we should've allowed to leave the Union. Admit it.

This is false. I would not have convicted this man because I believe he was not in his right mind when he killed the driver, but it is entirely proper to discuss this case in terms of vigilantism. Vigilantism (in this case, revenge killing) threatens when the initial crime is so heinous that the victim (and/or the mob) want to bypass due process. The hideousness of the facts is actually the entire reason we are discussing this as a case of emotion superseding reason.

Yeah except this is real life not a Samuel L Jackson movie. And yes, it absolutely was vigilantism but for whatever reason they didn't have enough evidence to convict. I truly hope that guy doesn't kill someone else the next time something tragic happens in his life.

I've already maintained I have no problem with responsible people owning guns... not sure where you're getting that from. Maybe Priceless or one of them is anti-gun and you're confusing me with them? IDK

Have you ever been hit by a 300lb man? It's much more jarring and disorienting than being hit by your average Joe. A single blow by a man who's some 60% larger than average will have greater impact due to greater force which in turn means that man is a much greater threat.

Guns in this case are irrelevant; dude could have killed the driver with a pick axe without any change in the relevant facts of the case.

But people are always ready with the "you don't respect the Second Amendment" argle bargle as a reflex in any case where a gun is even mentioned. Apparently, the Second Amendment means we can't have any discussion at all about curbing behavior -- as soon as a guy picks up a gun he becomes Liberty Man* and can do anything he wants.

I assume you're talking about Brown? My comment was referring to Trayvon just fyi.

It would be nice if people remembered this during domestic violence disputes.

I think there are people out there who, while not in any way racist, honestly believe due to differences in the incidence of violent crime that large black men are automatically threatening to whites, and thus that seemingly paranoid and aggressive reactions by whites are in some measure "reasonable." If that is the case, then every woman in America should start gunning down every man right this second. Better safe than sorry.

There is a Samuel L. Jackson model - limited availability. However my informants tell me that you have to buy a Morgan Freeman before you can buy a Jackson.

I was thinking more of my own experiences. Not too long ago I was the 300lb man (topped out around 360), and I was out there playing hockey while in the 330lb range. People would run into me or I'd bump them (I was very careful about not skating into people for this very reason) and they'd go bouncing off in another direction in an almost cartoon-like fashion. During league play, some idiot tried to deke me out while along the boards. I literally just planted my feet and waited for the guy to stop dancing. As he moved forward, his dancing antics led him squarely into me. The guy goes to the ice after falling back a few feet, gets up to yell at the ref for not calling anything, and the ref is just standing there, shaking his head and laughing at the guy.

With all of that, I know that it takes very little effort for a big man to generate an overly large response from smaller men, especially those whose pride might have been stung throughout the process.

The Richard Roundtree has been discontinued.

You describe exactly the scenario I've imagined if my 6'3" 290 pound great nephew (365 bench) played hockey. Life altering checks out in front of the DU net. Sadly, he's from Phoenix and ice is something he puts in his drinks. He'll be playing football for the Air Force Academy next year. Still, one can imagine.

Jesse Jackson is evidently one of them, although his remarks didn't mention size.

“There is nothing more painful to me … than to walk down the street and hear footsteps and start thinking about robbery, then look around and see somebody white and feel relieved.”

Re: Nice Plant #7: Get me off of this planet

I'm a bit perplexed with how easily people are willing to toss around perceived threat in hopes of arguing certain instances of violence are justifiable.

Before anyone goes Pavlov and reflexively cries "2nd amendment" this is not a gun control rant, nor an argument against the concept of stand your ground.

However, it seems we were less inclined to go vigilante on the bit just a few short years ago. The man that killed the two teen intruders in his house even after they were completely incapacitated, Martin/Zimmerman and now this guy that killed the man that murdered his kids while driving drunk.

I'm a parent of two. I love my kids with every ounce of my fiber and would do anything for them. To be honest I don't know how I'd react. It's quite possible I'd lose my sh#t and go after the guy. But I don't think we should so easily be able to argue without hesitation that the guy had absolutely zero choice in that moment to also take a life.

I know this post will be misconstrued and I guess I'm unrealistic to wish their frequency would plateau, but I don't have to like how our society has so casually accepted them as standard.

Just for the record: the Texas guy was acquitted. As was Zimmerman. He's allowed to defend himself, even against a 12-year old. But your larger point is certainly true. Nobody can predict how he'd respond in a situation like what that father faced. "I woulda done this" or "I woulda done that" is so much piffle.

Bernie Goetz got a slap on the wrist. Hundreds of thousands of New Yorkers, trapped in the subway with young thugs wanting to "borrow" money understood what went down. And approved.
