Nice Plant #7: Get me off of this planet

Re: Nice Plant #7: Get me off of this planet

Same difference though. There was supposedly a struggle in the car, during which a shot may or may not have gone off. Brown then ends up dead 35 feet, or 12 yards, away from the car, shot from primarily if not entirely the front. He had to have gotten there and been facing the cop somehow.

If the cop is right up there next to him, that simply leads to more questions like why the hell the cop got within arm's reach of Brown after the altercation in the car or why he didn't keep his distance until Brown started obeying orders. And if he did keep his distance, the initial question remains, what the hell happened to make Brown stop walking/running away and then charge the officer again.

Above all, under no circumstances ever, is this cop to be given the benefit of any doubt. Anything he did was wrong because: "An unarmed gentle giant of a black teenager who was heading to college that week was shot dead."

Re: Nice Plant #7: Get me off of this planet

On this question of whether it was Brown on the surveillance tape strong arming his way out of the convenience store with cigars, I was reminded of a scene from Tommy Boy where Tommy denies he held up the bank. And a little kid replies: " Oh, yeah, right. Like it was some other real fat guy with a tiny head."

I, for one, can't believe I'm seeing Old Pio reference Tommy Boy. My life is now complete. :p

Re: Nice Plant #7: Get me off of this planet

Why do some of you insist that because this detail or that hasn't yet been reported it means there's something amiss? An investigation into an event such as this can't be completed immediately, and therefore it would be irresponsible for them to reveal any details yet. I swear some of you want him to be guilty of a crime.

Take your pick: bias or prejudice

Re: Nice Plant #7: Get me off of this planet

84 people shot in Chicago over the July 4th weekend. Virtually all black. Virtually all of the shooters were black. Not a peep out of the Revs or the MSM.
I'm actually with you on this point.

I also pointed out earlier that it would have been pretty easy for this kid to avoid this situation altogether. There is no reason to just walk right down the middle of the street and draw attention to yourself. It's pretty easy to be anonymous if you want to be. The ones I feel bad for are those that do try to be anonymous and get sucked in anyway.

Re: Nice Plant #7: Get me off of this planet

Militarization of the police. Yeah, with armor-piercing bullets on the streets, they don't need military gear for that. Nosiree.

And apparently, according to CNN analysts, if you follow cops' orders, nothing bad will happen to you. Amazing.

These are two distinct realities. And different. I repeat, any time a cop kills a civilian the shooting needs to be thoroughly investigated. Let the chips fall where they may, in this case or any other. But we live in democracy not a mobocracy. And all of this racial posturing has got me fed up to here. Among the stupid racist assertions I've heard more than once: black folks in Ferguson participate in elections in single digits, which somehow justifies recusing or removing the duly elected d.a. I guess now we're going to start counting potential ballots (that might have worked for Al Gore in Florida). If the black folks in Ferguson can't be bothered to get off their lazy a*ses and vote, whose fault is it?

This is another one of those memes about which the media talk and talk and talk even though it has no relevance to the case at hand. Nobody's been shot at or with any of these scary weapons. Remember all the endless prattle about "stand your ground" in the Martin shooting? Never claimed. Never argued. Not a factor. But that didn't stop the non stop lip flapping.

Re: Nice Plant #7: Get me off of this planet

Imagine that your job requires to interact with any and all persons on the street or road. And you have no idea of that person's state of mind or situation. I would want them armed to the teeth. A MN cop was killed recently, because the guy panicked because he had a pending drug charge. During a traffic stop. A traffic stop.

I'm just saying.

I posted earlier about Jimmy Wilson, the first 3rd generation officer in Omaha history. He was gunned down during a traffic stop. Took an AK 47 round through the eye. Never got his seat belt unbuckled. I knew his dad and was covering the funeral live from the grave side when Jimmy Sr. threw himself on Jimmy Jr's casket. That stuff stays with you.

I'll also say, that Ferguson cop that was suspended? Good. He should be done. I'm pro-cop, but will call out bad apples. That guy should NOT be in an authoritative role in any way. Too hot-headed, from appearances.

Yep. I understand tensions are high, but you have to have thicker skin if we're going to give you a gun.

Yep. My uncle and great grandpa had 78 years combined on the force. Never fired a weapon. Not even close, actually. I am so thankful for that.

Not that it matters insofar as the inappropriateness of his actions is concerned. But he's a St. Ann cop.

I would guess that's true of the vast majority of officers. That's why it came a such a shock in Houston when it turned out a young white officer with fewer than ten years on the force had already shot and killed 4 young black men! 'Course the flip side to that may the time a civilian was on a ride along and his officer was gunned down and killed and the poor guy had to call in for help. I believe I would have messed myself.

Fine. No business on the force. None.

And if I had to call in a "officer down" I believe I'd sh* myself too.

Re: Nice Plant #7: Get me off of this planet

To play devil's advocate... does anyone here think that LOTS of cops don't use threatening language to get people to do as they've commanded?

I get it. He's pointing a gun and threatening to shoot people and I myself called it assault. It's intense and ugly and very real.

Who thinks this is uncommon? You think all cops just ask nicely or threaten to count to 5.

Consider before you respond to this.
