The "market" all you libtards are suddenly so respectful of is the "market" for bribing a potential future POTUS for access. The same potential POTUS who made 100K on a 1K investment in the esoteric cattle futures market after "reading an article in the WSJ." The same potential POTUS who tried to steal WH furnishings on her way out the door. The same potential POTUS whose sleazy brothers were selling presidential pardons. The same potential POTUS whose Rose Law Firm billing records (under subpoena for more than a year) just "showed up" one day, without explanation, on a table in the WH living quarters. The same potential POTUS who now complains about the burden of her legal fees while in the WH (burdens which didn't prevent her from buying a 6 million dollar home in Chappaqua), who had no qualms about siccing the FBI on mid level career government employees in the WH travel office, forcing them to rack up tens of thousands of dollars in legal fees to defend themselves against spurious charges (none were ever convicted of anything).

Maybe you can help me out: is "angry" or "racist" the top libtard smear of conservatives? One politicians is definitely not the same as another. There are honest, decent people of both parties serving their country. Any assertion to the contrary is designed, I guess, to ameliorate the grasping, sleazy, grubby professional life that is Hilllary Clinton's. She was named after Sir Edmund Hillary, you know, before he climbed Everest. Her mother should have named her Tenzing.

I'm of the opinion that most of the honest and decent folks exist at the local and state level. I'll also grant you the handful of freshmen House Reps who head off to Washington every two years, just like new college grads starting their first real job - all wide-eyed and ready to change the world, only to find out that it's not quite as grand and noble as they thought.

The subclass of politicians that make a lifelong career of it are the ones that taint the others. Their conflict of interest is so blatant and so egregious! :mad:

The only thing that ever matters to them is getting elected and remaining in office. They will lie, cheat, steal, they have such an air of entitlement: I suspect they are both psychologically and spiritually damaged to expect to make a living that way.

Most of our best politicians, it seems to me, are those who did something else for a career and ran for office out of a true sense of humility and public service: Our Founders, certainly (none of them possibly could have made a career out of politics!!), and many others as well (e.g., Eisenhower's stature continues to increase among historians as more information emerges about just how effective he was).

To echo FTB&G, our town government until recently had become been very corrupt, disgustingly so. A successful, well-regarded businessman recently was elected the equivalent of mayor and about half of the town council was replaced by new membership, and the current town government is engaged in doing very good work since the election. they are not rushing anything through nor jamming anything down people's throats, despite a 19-11 majority, they are soliciting feedback from all sides, even those recently defeated, engaging the town's population for feedback, and are steadily implementing sensible, practical reforms.

I tend to think the exact opposite. The most corrupt politicians on the planet are those in local and small state races that can win simply by turning out their friends and/or handing out patronage like crazy. They also tend to be less vetted and less heavily scrutinized, leaving larger gaps for them to exploit without getting caught.

Once upon a time there was a sheriff in West Baton Rouge parish in Louisiana (across the river from Baton Rouge) who used to put up billboards during campaign season with just one word on them: "Jobs." He wasn't referring to jobs he'd help create in the parish. He was letting all the semi-literates on his payroll know what was at stake in the election.

I'm going to agree, and disagree with this.

Turning out friends and handing out patronage to get elected starts at the top and extends through the entirety of the U.S. political system. It's just a matter of scale. One man's job with the maintenance department is another man's ambassadorship to Turkey.

Similarly, while your local candidate for city council won't have the WSJ or Washington Post looking at their every move, there's a pretty good chance most of the electorate actually know the candidate, or know someone in their family, and likely already know where all the skeletons are buried.

But if you just want to steal $20,000 from the public coffers, your best bet is in small town America. Anything larger and you need to run for Congress.
