Re: Nice Plant #7: Get me off of this planet

So what because her name is Clinton she doesnt get to partake in the free market? Why is it her fault someone wants to pay her that...and better yet why should she turn it down? That seems to be what some around here are saying...

And I am sorry but W only got into Yale because of his daddys name. Dont pretend he and Chelsea are different.

I would say it's more an indictment of NBC than anyone or anything else.

Well they both lived in the White House for 8 years.

One Daddy shook hands with JFK, the other with Babe Ruth.

One got shot down by the Japanese, the other got shot down by a bunch of blonds.

Exactly. The market can decide what she (or anyone else) is worth.

Even so, he had better SAT scores than Captain Botox. And better grades, too.

To summarize: that she gets to be in that position is a joke, sure. However, just because you are in that position doesn't mean anyone is going to give you money BECAUSE you are in that position. Someone did. And they are probably going to look like fools, while Chelsea is laughing all the way to the bank.

So what is the difference between NBC employing Chelsea Clinton and NBC employing Jenna Bush?

Of course. It's been entertaining to get lectures about "market value" from people who customarily react to CEO salaries with calls for regulation and sermons about corporate excess. This episode, does however redefine "dead broke," doesn't it?

Because Bush didn't get 600K and her father was already in the WH. Oh, wait, not a serious question. My bad.

Re: Nice Plant #7: Get me off of this planet

I'm still not quite sure what the problem is. If NBC wants to hire Jenna Bush, Chelsea Clinton or any other former president's kid, why is it so upsetting? And if they want to completely overpay the kid, why does anyone care?

This, among many other posts on this topic, is precisely why I can't support the Republicans anymore. They just whine and bjtch about the absolute stupidest effing things. It's pathetic.

BINGO! That was my point exactly.

For what it's worth, I feel the same way for the same reason about NBC hiring Jenna Bush Hager. And don't get me started on Ronan Farrow.

I've got no issue with Chelsea partaking in the free market. I am a firm believer that when somebody puts green money on the table, you should pick it up. George Bush didn't make money off of the family name, he made it off of the family fortune. Big difference. And I wouldn't want to hazard a bet as to whether conservatives or liberals benefit more in college acceptance from the family name.

So what is the difference between NBC employing Chelsea Clinton and NBC employing Jenna Bush?
None. Both are profiting from the family name. And both were likely hired more to gain access than for their journalist skills.

I certainly don't care.
