Nice Plant #7: Get me off of this planet

Re: Nice Plant #7: Get me off of this planet

I saw a story last week (on 48 Hours?) about 2-16 y.o. girls in Virginia that befriended a 3rd girl their Fr year of HS. The girl up until that point was a good student, etc., etc. At some point during their So year the 2 (all speculation) decided they no longer wanted to be friends with the 3rd and instead of just drifting a part, lured her to the woods and stabbed her to death after plotting for 6 months. One of them admitted her last words were, "Why?". Neither has ever stated why they did it and I suppose it doesn't really matter. Just makes you wonder and breaks your heart.

Here's a radical idea instead of blaming these type of events on music, video games, the internet and TV. It's called parenting. My parents made it their business to know the music I liked, the shows I watched, the friends I hung out with, etc. They weren't jerks about it, but they knew what was going on. I'll do the same with my stepdaughter. She plays computer games online and watches Disney Channel shows on Netflix. I make sure I know what she's into and then pull the reigns in if I need to. A little effort goes a long way.

And Elvis. Don't forget Elvis. He started it.

Should be interesting to see their defense. I don't think they're insane, either, just monumentally stupid. It was all very calculated, they had several opportunities to turn back, and they didn't. It's like saying the Easter Bunny told you to kill someone. The average 12 year old knows he doesn't exist, and that killing people is wrong. Maybe I'm forgetting what it's like to be 12, but I'm fairly certain if I thought a make-believe character wanted me to kill someone, it would maybe occur to me that it wasn't real. :p

And yet when "God" told Abraham to kill his son Isaac...

It is actually 7 out of 10, but you can go with 4 if you want. :p

40% for that specific reason.

If I have to judge by what I see around me, I'd go with 8.5 out of 10.

Harmless. People believe a lot of things that other people don't. If they're happy, then I'm happy for them.

I guess I can agree with "harmless" to a point. There probably won't be any science teachers gunned down or classrooms bombed over this.

Intentionally misinforming people though, especially children, while dressing it up as education and facts is worthy of some scorn.

Just raising/indoctrinating the next generation of imbeciles.

Don't get me wrong. I'm not saying they can't have this or that the kids' parents aren't responsible for taking them there.

Just saying that if you're going to espouse these "beliefs" then I get to point and laugh at you.

And yes, it makes me feel superior. Only because I am.

The irony is that evolution (and man's ascension to top of the chain) has eliminated some of the need for critical thinking that many of these believers seem incapable of. Just over 10,000 years ago, they'd have been sabertooth tiger bait.

Of course, luckily for them or their ancestors, the planet wasn't around back then.

Actually, that just might explain how stupid people avoided natural selection. Maybe they're onto something...
