Nice Plant #7: Get me off of this planet

Re: Nice Plant #7: Get me off of this planet

So Mike Brown's buddy and "key witness" has an outstanding warrant and lied to the police.

I'm shocked, just shocked!

Dorian Johnson, 22, was arrested by police in Jefferson City, Missouri, in June 2011 after he allegedly stole a delivery package off a doorstep in an apartment complex. He was attending college at Lincoln University in the city, which is about 120 miles west of Ferguson.

When cops asked Johnson for his name, he told them he was Derrick Johnson and that he was 16 - though he gave officer a birth date that would have made him 17, according to an arrest report obtained by MailOnline.

Officers later found a student ID in Johnson's sock that gave his real name.

He was charged with misdemeanor theft and filing a false police report. He pleaded guilty to the latter charge. When he didn't show up to court to answer the theft charge, a judge issued a warrant for his arrest.

All the more reason for network anchors to be very circumspect in what they say.

I'll repeat my anecdote about the late Frank Reynolds. On the day Reagan was shot, Reynolds announced Jim Brady had died and ABC showed WH staffers in tears standing around a monitor. Their reaction wasn't confirming what Reynolds had said, it was in reaction to what Reynolds had said. The "death" of Brady was news to them. This prompted a visibly angry Reynolds, in a very loud voice, to suggest "we get this right." Editing on the fly, which is what's going on in wall to wall coverage, requires balance, confidence in your sources, and willingness to admit you may not have it locked down. And it's much tougher to do now than it was back then. I remember the night Bin Laden got clipped, somebody posted a picture they said was him. It wasn't. The Palestinians and their media pals regularly provide photo shopped images of alleged Israeli "atrocities."

But, the news agency that holds fast to fact checking what they say loses viewers to the other guy who breaks that same news faster (potentially without fact checking). Those lost viewers means less ad revenue, meaning less income to pay for people to fact check.

The downward race for the almighty advertising dollar has driven these news agencies to play fast and loose with the facts given to them. Take time to get someone to answer a phone call, or beat the other guys to breaking news?

And I'm not sure what's more embarrassing, that it took TWO WEEKS for HuffPo to crack that the photo wasn't Michael Brown, or that they were the FIRST ones TWO WEEKS later to crack that the photo wasn't Michael Brown.

Media driven justice. As I said earlier, I can't be more embarrassed.

I long ago accepted the fact that cable news media is little more than tabloids on TV. I suggest everyone else do the same.

They were good at one point, then the internet came. Instant news (false or true, but FIRST) became truth. And then it was done.

One crucial difference: in many cases the errors made in the race to be first are honest. In these racial BFD's honesty is in much shorter supply. Replaced by advocacy. For God's sake, they're still showing pictures of 12 year old Trayvon Martin.

Is this the same officer who identified himself as Geaux Fuque Youseff in the Deadspin video?

No. Two different guys. Our Promise Keeper pal brags about his body count. Surely there should be a way to verify whether he's a killer or a blowhard. My money's on the latter. Incidentally, isn't Promise Keepers that outfit that former Colorado football coach Bill McCartney belonged to? Pretty extreme views on how subservient women are supposed to be to men. New Testament Taliban.

This guy....this is the type that gives cops a bad name. He has NO business anywhere NEAR a badge. I wouldn't even hire him to be a mall cop.

A barking moonbat no doubt. He'll opt for early retirement. The embarrassing question for the department: has he been as outspoken on the job as he was in this church appearance? If so, how was he able to serve for 35 years without anyone noticing he's a couple of tacos short of a combo plate?

Forget the killer stuff. How about a guy on cop's pay who takes a vacation to Kenya. To make some bullsh*t point about Obama's homeland. That's the very definition of obsessive racist.

Thanks for clearing that up.

And yes, PK is quite the ... interesting ... group. A modern day "good ole boys club" where guys can get together to go golfing, network, and make sure their significant other stays in the kitchen. Barefoot.

Islam isn't the only faith that has their share of way-too-far cardinal direction extremist groups. Christianity has the same, if not more: Promise Keepers, Army of God, KKK, Catholicism...
