Nice Planet X: I knew it, I'm surrounded by a-holes!

Re: Nice Planet X: I knew it, I'm surrounded by a-holes!

Just remember, easy access to weapons capable of committing mass murder aren't the problem at all, and would be the solution if everyone had more of them.....

Twenty first graders were slaughtered and nothing happened. There certainly won't be a movement over some CC kids.

Re: Nice Planet X: I knew it, I'm surrounded by a-holes!

What percentage of mass killings happen in the places with absolute bans on guns ("gun-free zones")?
You don't say? That can't be right... we all know that banning more guns was supposed to solve everything.

The "Gun Free Zones are a Failure" meme is a distraction from the reality that:

1) Our mental health system is treated as a joke, and is a joke
2) Any derp without a felony record can buy an arsenal of semi-automatic firearms with very little effort

I own guns. Unlike many righties, I think gun laws are flexible to a point.

Mental health checks are the biggest hole in background checks, I agree.
Loopholes (blind buying, exceptions) are the second biggest hole in the laws.

No MORE laws, close up and enforce the ones we actually have. Pray that stupid people start following basic gun safety laws. Safes, locks, etc.

Safes and trigger locks are not laws in most jurisdictions. We've been "praying" for years with no adoption or enforcement. It's time for accountability.

That means if your 8 year-old blows his friend's brains out with your pistol, you get charged.

Guns haven't been banned.

No, the failure to end violence by adding more bans to the bans doesn't in any way contradict what you said. Perhaps you mean that 1) and 2) are more important priorities? Then you have a point. All I hear from politicians is that once we pass enough legislation against shooting people, the problem will solve itself.

Re: Nice Planet X: I knew it, I'm surrounded by a-holes!

I defy anybody to create a simple narrative out of all this.

"dude was psycho."
OK, not helpful... but true. One of the witnesses said when the answer was "Christian", he shot them in the head. If not, he shot them in the leg. Sounds like he'd been reading the ISIS marketing, or perhaps "DailyKOS".

Except nobody says this, it's just an NRA talking point to try to denigrate all gun control laws.

There are lots of parts to the solution, but keeping guns out of the hands of lunatics is obviously one part, and only the gun lobby trying to protect its profits would argue otherwise.

...how do you close loopholes without passing more laws to close the loopholes?

So why are is Medicaid continually being cut to the point of emptying long-term mental health patients out on the streets? (Or is this just in MI?) No politician is willing to face the real issues. Clearly keeping guns away from lunatics should be the priority. Instead in our wisdom we vilify cops, teachers, and hunters, because they're the ones that will follow the endlessly accumulating bans. The people we habitually blame are not actually the problem.

You take out the exemptions in the current laws. That's not creating more laws, that's actually removing laws, technically.

Yes, but removing stuff doesn't put you into the history books. Legislation and Presidency for the last 50 years has been about one thing: Historical remembrance.

In an ironic twist to your point, removing laws that created these loopholes requires...passing more laws. They're just targeted laws instead of broad spectrum laws. :p

And he was mixed race, too. So in the great spirit of generalisations, we can conclude that mixed race men who hate Christians are dangerous.

What symbol can we ban to make us feel better?
