Re: Nice Planet © 2009

They talked about this on the radio on my way to work. Their theory was basically he did it because of all of the high school cheerleader *** he could get.

Wishful thinking. An attempt to explain the inexplicable.

I'm just.. Wow... I've never seen such a move by a coach. This disgusts me.

Re: Nice Planet © 2009

So, why couldn't she just have taken the bracelet off, and jumped again?? She cleared that hight on her first try, she would have at least 2 more trys at it right??

I know track rules might be different in different states, but I know in Wisconsin it's an automatic DQ from the event, not just a wipeoff of your jump, throw, etc.

Just a gentle reminder... yes its David Horowitz... but the pleasant girl at the microphone agrees that, per Hezbollah, that it would be useful if all the Jews went to Israel when its time for Hezbollah to destroy Israel.

Re: Nice Planet © 2009

This asshat figures he's Billy Martin and the girl is George Brett. Shame on him. "I know a lot of rules and regulations," nice standard for your kids. :(

Agreed that this coach would benefit from a kick to the twig & berries, but there's a little part of me that says perhaps the other coach should be aware of the rules as well and instructed his player to remove the bracelet. Why take the chance?

Re: Nice Planet © 2009

Clearly someone didn't wish to. Of course, I already I think they should have been left alone so...

How is that clear? There was nothing in the article about it. Some bureaucrat just jumped in and decided that if the city supplied the food, the seniors couldn't pray. There was no indication that any residents complained.

I assume this rule has something to do with safety. And the coach who "knows lots of rules", it seems to me, would have been doing the right thing to point out to the girl that she should take off the bracelet. And not wait 'til she had won the chamionship. That sort of games playing should not be part of high school competition. Yeah, maybe her coach should have known the rule, but that doesn't let the wanna be Billy Martin off the hook--he's an asshat.

How did the bureaucrat know about it? And whether or not any residents complained doesn't prove whether not anyone was offended.

That said, I still disagree with any move to sanction or stifle someone praying before a meal - regardless of the location - so long as no one was forced to participate. In fact I fully endorse their praying.

The bureaucrat made his decision based on his interpretation of federal regulations. Letting the seniors pray before their chicken noodle soup, in his estimation, was an establishment of religion, and put the federal funds at risk. This was a pre-emptive action, the feds had said nothing.

I meant how was it that word got out in order from someone outside the home to get their undies in a bunch?

Good question. IIRC the original article didn't say. A reasonable guess (in 21st century america) is that one of the seniors complained--to a friend or family member. And that person called a grand standing politician or the media, or both. Bingo. Instant outrage.

What is it with these clowns who claim phony service in Vietnam? This guy isn't trying to cage drinks at the local VFW, he's a leading candidate for the Senate (to replace the corruptChris Dodd).

Please note his defense: I didn't lie about my service in Vietnam as often as Hillary Clinton lied about dodging sniper fire at Tuzla! Those of us who served in those days but didn't make SEA are careful to call ourselves Vietnam ERA vets. An important distinction. What is it about military service that makes some people lie and exaggerate? Twenty years ago the publisher of the Arizona Republic was revealed as a total liar--having created a military record as an AF pilot, complete with pictures in dress uniform, that was a complete falsehood. This guy was one of the most influential people in the state yet he created this phony record and periodically embroidered it. I can't explain it. But Blumenthal is a lying putz.

People like this make me sick.

Crayons and toothpaste? Unfortunate, but maybe **** wouldn't have happened to him if he hadn't started ****.

I bet we don't see people shoplifting from Chicago CVS stores for awhile.
