Nice Planet 6: Get Me Off This Planet.

Re: Nice Planet 6: Get Me Off This Planet.

You seem to be having trouble distinguishing between the federal government and the local police. The totalitarian tendencies of the current federal government are indeed of significant concern to many people, but to suggest that somehow the federal government is recruiting municipal police forces for support in that regard is more than a bit far-fetched. Timothy McVeigh was not a patriot, he was a deluded mass murderer. You are parroting him and come across as unhinged in the process, to the extent that anything worthwhile you might have to offer is completely drowned out by ridiculous noise.

I am not at all concerned about my local police force; if anything I'd expect at least half of it to support people in our town against federal government tyranny if the Feds were to try to invade in force. I am very concerned when any administration, be it that of Richard Nixon or anyone else, uses the IRS and the Department of Justice to intimidate free speech rights of people with whom they disagree. Just as I am concerned when any Congress cedes some of its institutional rights to the Executive, merely for short-term evanescent political advantage.

Furthermore, you are committing a basic logical fallacy, called the "undistributed middle term." Your "logic" as presented is invalid.

Well stated.

Re: Nice Planet 6: Get Me Off This Planet.

One is funded by the other. .... Follow the money.

Our town budget is a matter of public record. Salaries for the police department are funded mostly by municipal property taxes. We do not receive federal grants for law enforcement in our town.

You are just wrong on this particular point. A person with character would acknowledge that.

Re: Nice Planet 6: Get Me Off This Planet.

Has anyone seen the Metlife commercial (it's in heavy rotation during Matlock reruns) where mom and her two adult daughters are talking about the accident "dad" had. He evidently fell off the ladder while cleaning the gutters and injured an arm. He's shown as being perfectly ambulatory, sporting a sling. Anyway, these allegedly loving women don't discuss the extent of his injury or prognosis or even whether they should encourage him to stay off the ladder and hire the neighbor kid to do the gutters. No sir, these ladies begin speculating about buying an insurance policy which would cover dad's "final expenses." After all, the loving thing to do is to make certain none of them gets stuck with the costs of planting the old boy. Given enough time, these babes would doubtless come up with justifications for putting the old boy "out of his misery," assuming the policy was in effect, of course.

But YOU pay Federal taxes, AND YOU pay municipal property taxes!!! You're the link! You're the one supporting this proliferation of the police state! AHHHHHHHH, there is one of THEM amongst us!

This one hit close to home?

Someone's never heard of a kickback.

Re: Nice Planet 6: Get Me Off This Planet.

No, you're all wrong. A kickback is when the kicker kicks the football into the endzone on a kickoff, and it is not returned. Either the ball goes out of bounds through the endzone, or the returner gives himself up by taking a knee in the endzone.

Unless you're playing in the CFL, where the receiver can punt the ball back to the kicking team. ;)

Re: Nice Planet 6: Get Me Off This Planet.

I bet it was a cop that put her down.

Nah, they've got executioners for that. 500 of the 1,400 inmates put down since capital punishment was reinstated have been in Texas. When they sentence you to death, they're fixin' to come get you.
