Re: Nice Planet 6: Get Me Off This Planet.

Keep spinning it to make it look like the cops can do no wrong. They have no regard for anyone's life, only to imprison whomever they see and come up with some excuse for it. This cop will get a raise because we are in a police state. It's time to wake up.
Where did I say what the cop did wasn't wrong?

When has anyone on here ever said that cops can do no wrong? We've all admitted it, but we just don't go off and say that a few bad cops -- a statistically small minority -- mean that all cops are bad.

Strong and peaceful, wise and brave;
Fighting the fight for the whole world to save.
We the people will ceaselessly strive
To keep our great revolution alive.
Unfurl the banners, look at the screen;
Never before has such glory been seen.

Oceania, Oceania, Oceania, 'tis for thee.
Every deed, every thought 'tis for thee.
Every deed, every thought 'tis for thee.

Considering you're all defending them to the death, I'd say that's pretty concrete evidence you believe they can do no wrong.

Re: Nice Planet 6: Get Me Off This Planet.

I agree with FlagDUDE. As soon as a police officer is sworn in, s/he should be immediately executed. This would greatly reduce the likelihood that cops will abuse their power. There's only a slight chance, statistically negligible I would think, that this would have any sort of negative effect on anything.

Defending the GOOD ones. THE GOOD ONES! The 99%+ that are NOT CROOKED. NO ONE IS DEFENDING DIRTY COPS! NOT ALL OF THEM ARE BAD! QUIT BEING SO ****ING DENSE.

Not one person in any post has defended ANY of the cops in the anecdotes you post. We are just saying that you can't extrapolate that behavior to the other 99.999% of cops out there. We're defending the ones you're NOT posting about.

Per Wiki, there are 794,300 cops in the US. If they each work 5 days per week for 50 weeks per year and have 8 "interactions" with private citizens per day (pretty conservative, I would think), that's roughly 1.6 billion interactions between cops and citizens each year. So each anecdote you post represents 0.000000063% of the interactions that go on each year. I really have no idea how you think that 10, 20, even 1000 of these stories are going to convince any rational person that there's a widespread, systemic issue.

If they're not all bad, why are they getting military surplus, such as tanks, to turn them all into SWAT team members, and buying up THREE BILLION ROUNDS of ammunition?

The only way some of you will be convinced is if it happens to you. I still have hope that people will wake up and understand they no longer have Constitutional rights in this police state.

And yet...hundreds of millions of us remain unconvinced. If there's such a problem, how do you explain the fact that it HASN'T happened to so many people?

You know that there's good therapy available for paranoia these days, right?

Your mind is so ****ed up, I can't even comprehend it.

Talk to me about living in a Police State when the Jews, Gypsies, Gays, People who sag their pants low enough to see most of their underwear, and other Undesirables are rounded up into camps that they don't return from.

I have never once seen an officer walking down the street while spec'd out in full military garb, let alone riding a tank down the street. While the purchase of "three billion" rounds of ammo, I remember a large purchase that was entirely within the FBI and it wasn't 3 billion rounds. In fact, upon further research, it was 1.6 billion rounds over the course of a year, hardly the same as 3 billion. Still, it is an astonishingly high total. I know snipers and sharpshooters will go through hundreds of rounds each day in practice shots, military snipers say they will shoot up to 2,000 rounds/day in practice.

Maybe they're prepping for the elections this year. Pelosi for Congress... Or Else!

Re: Nice Planet 6: Get Me Off This Planet.

So now you want to get anecdotal and present that as evidence?

Q1. Has it ever happened to you?

Q2. Do you know any police officers personally? Do any of them conform to the stereotype you are trying to promote?

Re: Nice Planet 6: Get Me Off This Planet.

I have seen a few in body armor wearing helmets carrying semi-automatic rifles. It's a regular (albeit infrequent) occurrance around Rockefeller Center. Somehow, though, I've never once felt threatened by them....though seeing them attired like that has definitely made me wonder what kind of intelligence they had to show up that way in the first place.

I've also been on trains or in train stations when people wearing jackets emblazoned with "Department of Homeland Security" have gone through inspecting luggage. For a brief period of time, they inspected everyone's bags when they boarded a train.* I can understand how some people would not like that state of affairs, and I can see how a suspicious person might consider that the start of a "slippery slope" leading to further controls on our movement.

That's what terrorists want: for us to curtail our enjoyment of freedoms we take for granted, like freedom of assembly. if any assembly can be disrupted by a bomb threat, they would consider that a victory.

FDud seems to think that efforts to keep us safe must also make us servile. While it is possible, it doesn't automatically make it probable.

* It was a bit strange though because they were screening the luggage after people had boarded the train and before they went to their seats, while the train was pulling away from the station. Apparently it was a pilot program and they decided it wasn't feasible to continue it or extend it.

You keep using those words...I do not think they mean what you think they mean...

Feel free to leave this "police state" as soon as possible.
