Re: Nice Planet 5: Insert Catchy Title Here

Well, you know, upper east side . . . McDonalds would be uncivilized.

When I first read the story I recalled how many times I tried to pull that stunt with my old man. Zero.

I hope the lawyer busts that "psychologist" back to her recruiter's office.

Aw hell, I tried pulling that stunt with my mom back when I was a kid. I was told "you will eat what I make or you will go hungry."

My mom made me sit at the table until I ate what was served. Too many times I sat at that kitchen table until I went to bed without eating for the night. I was one very stubborn child, got it from my mom.

Saw this on Fark. Sounds like the ex-wife was behind it as divorce revenge.

**** like this is why I'm happily single, childfree, and in no hurry to change either. All it takes is one kook and your life is in tatters.
Yeah, single living has some advantages.

Our rule was you either ate it or it got served to you at the next meal as leftovers anyway - cold.

This could be an example of the old saw that people get the government they deserve....

And identity politics. ;)

identity politics
n. (used with a sing. or pl. verb)
Political attitudes or positions that focus on the concerns of social groups identified mainly on the basis of gender, race, ethnicity, or sexual orientation.

Monty Python used to tease: "Now for something completely different" (a man with three buttocks). Nothing so unusual here. Just a twerp professor* using ESPN to offer his opinion that the "Star Spangled Banner" is a "war anthem" that shouldn't be played before sporting events. Instead of being "completely different," his views are completely typical. Every "prog" and "prog" leaning libtard will doubtless agree. No sense in polluting the "Lest we forget" thread with this shiza.

*Until this incident I was ignorant of the "professor." I will work very hard to remain so in the future.

Gunnery Sergeant Hartman! I thought I knew you from somewhere!

" I bet you're the kind of guy who would ****** a person in the a*s and not even have the g*d**** common courtesy to give him a reach-around. I'll be watching you!"

Ermey wasn't even supposed to play the role of Hartman. He was brought on by Kubrick as a consultant to help make the boot camp scenes more authentic. A few days in he realized he'd probably be a better fit for the role himself, so he submitted a tape of himself spouting drill sergeant talk while being pelted with oranges from off-camera AND NEVER STUMBLING OR REPEATING HIMSELF FOR FIFTEEN MINUTES. Kubrick put him in the role on the spot and allowed him full ad-libbing privileges, not a common thing as Kubrick was a notorious control freak.

Word is after the line you mentioned Kubrick stopped tape and went "CUT...what the hell's a reach around?"
