Re: Nice Planet 3: I Can't Believe I Share A Planet With THESE People!

Seems to me that you are being selective as to what you become outraged about.

Well, yeah. Don't you choose to get mad at certain things but not others? Or are you just mad at everything? Or perhaps nothing at all? If it's somewhere in the middle, then you're selectively outraged as well and your argument is pointless at best, hypocritical at worst.

The two incidents in question are different. I'm outraged by neither but upset by both. But they are different.

Re: Nice Planet 3: I Can't Believe I Share A Planet With THESE People!

You're funny.

ETA: Although, the fact that you don't think the idea that God sent a tornado to earth to punish people is "lunacy" is kinda scary...

I'm sorry, where exactly did I say that? I pointed out the lunacy of the idea of "weather weapons", and you extrapolate that into whatever nonsensical point you are trying to make about God and punishing people? I've said nothing along those lines. You're a trip.

Your convenient inconsistency mirrors that of all partisans, which I am not. You certainly appeared outraged at Priceless's position over the past few days.

I would think that you'd be far more bothered by someone who says crackpot things when they actually have many ears in congress rather than a Hollywood Elite (via New York) that no one ever heard of before the right wing media decided to make her famous.

I'm not outraged by either. Both are tasteless regardless of what mindset they came from. I dismiss these as I do Sergio Garcia's stupid attempt at humor.

Just saying, if you're not gonna be consistent and throw a hissy fit, I'm gonna call you on it. If I'm in the mood.

Keep calling me the hypocrite though.

Re: Nice Planet 3: I Can't Believe I Share A Planet With THESE People!

It's hard to be outraged at something so incredibly asinine. He's just a nut-job with an audience, unfortunately. Why Drudge maintains close ties with him, I'm not sure.

An agenda-driven, horribly-timed insensitive joke said by an otherwise seemingly rational person is worthy of discussion. This nonsense should simply be ignored, or at the most, pointed out for what it is: Lunacy.

Most people are practicing the former. To practice the latter is to validate the troll.

I think he's more bothered that someone who is professing that one party is better than another because of a topic is practicing that same topic difference himself.

Do people say stupid things? Absolutely. Why should we be validating it through our discussion? As a part-time troll myself, validation is what keeps me going.

It's a common thing that one side will point out a flaw in the other knowing full well (or not recognizing) that they suffer the same flaw. It's human nature.

Sometimes I like to call people who are doing it.

See here's the thing. I'm not partisan either, at least not overall, as I like to think of it. I'm pretty **** fiscally conservative. But I don't care one way or another about abortion, and I'm thrilled beyond belief that one of my good friends can now marry his partner in this state.

Likewise, I found neither incident to be outrage-worthy. I invite you to go back and find where I pitched a "hissy fit" about either incident in and of itself. And please also show me where I was inconsistent at all. My inclusion into this whole topic was to request that Clueless fill us all in on the so called "pundits" who claimed that Sandy targeted liberals. When he instead posted the only links he could find, to no-name extremist sites, I called him on the vast difference of the current situation, and somehow I got lumped in with whoever is calling for the head of the Daily Show writer.

What does get me hot under the collar? Complete hypocrisy and poor argumentative skills of people like Clueless.

I think he's more bothered that someone who is professing that one party is better than another because of a topic is practicing that same topic difference himself.

Bingo.

Consistency is a good thing. ;)

The fact of the matter is that conservative pundits and politicians have in fact repeatedly said things exactly like what Priceless said, whether it was specific to Sandy or not. Hurricane Katrina being one of those times. The thing is that those people are FAR more relevant than "one of the creators of the Daily Show."

Who do you know from the Daily Show off the top of your head? Jon Stewart? The other on air talent? Did you ever hear of what's her face before the other day? I watch the Daily Show quite a bit and I never had. And I still don't remember her name.

Here are some interesting ideas from conservatives in regards to God's punishments...

Hurricane Katrina: http://mediamatters.org/research/2005/09/13/religious-conservatives-claim-katrina-was-gods/133804

Connecticut Shootings: http://www.examiner.com/article/james-dobson-blames-connecticut-shooting-on-gay-marriage-god-denial

”AIDS is not just God’s punishment for homosexuals; it is God’s punishment for the society that tolerates homosexuals.” ~Jerry Falwell

There are more, but I'm done doing research for now.

Now you can say these are just religious whackos, but these religious whackos are undoubtedly known and heard (listened to) by many many more people than what's her face, who no one ever heard of until the right wing media made a stink. They also have influence within our government - which is the true scary part.

Again, I don't like what she tweeted, but people with FAR more influence and with a FAR greater reach say the same types of things. The difference is that they aren't saying these things in a weak attempt at humor or ripping the other side. They're serious.

Considering the liberal media spent most of their Katrina coverage complaining about the color of the skin of someone who wasn't picked up by a helicopter because there wasn't enough room...

That would be moving the goal posts, don't you think?

You make good points and nothing to argue about. You still didn't answer my questions or show my my "hissy fits" but that's ok. We're actually pretty well on the same page regarding these incidents. You don't stoop to what Clueless does, and that's enough for me to call a spade a spade: You're not all that bad. Until the B1G season starts...

Maybe "hissy fit" was a bit strong, but you went after Priceless with a lot of gusto which surprised me because he wasn't far off point. Maybe you two have a history that I am unaware of.

Just drives me nuts when people (not necessarily you - mostly TV types & politicians who clearly have an agenda) make a huge deal out of one situation while ignoring a seemingly similar one. I know it happens on both sides, and it shouldn't.

Have fun finishing 2nd in the B1G. :p

Re: Nice Planet 3: I Can't Believe I Share A Planet With THESE People!

Which is hilarious, given the recent news about them.
The recent news is the reason. Though I don't believe for a second they're donating any anything to a charity.

Actually, online bullying was the whole reason that they said yes to the show in the first place, according to their interviews.
They can't tell the difference between a bad review and online bullying.

50,000. That's the number of overwhelmingly black folks rescued from their flooded homes in NO by overwhelmingly white Coast Guard kids. Racists.
