Re: Nice Planet 3: I Can't Believe I Share A Planet With THESE People!

As we all know, most non-moonbats feel resigned to vote for the lesser of two evils. It's why, after being suckered into Obama in 2008, I'm glad I wrote in "None of the Above" for President in 2012, and it's not because I'm some paranoid, anarchist dingbat.
That's why I did this, for the last election or two:

Re: Nice Planet 3: I Can't Believe I Share A Planet With THESE People!

The GOP made a pact with the devil, IMO, when it sought and got support from evangelicals. And they pay a price for it every election cycle when very extreme evangelical types make extreme statements about abortion.

For years, Democrats invited the "National Welfare Rights Organization" to its conventions. They paid a similar price. Look, in a system like ours, the two parties wind up assimilating groups and views which don't always reflect mainstream thinking. And the other party spends a lot of time and money smearing the opposition with those extreme views.

To be brutally honest about it, most of the people who post here (left and right) are far more informed than John Q. Citizen. Thus, we aren't representative of what's going on in the "real" world. I think you'll find there are a lot of nutty points of view out there. And our individual perceptions of which nutty points of view seem to predominate are influenced by the circles we run in. Thus NYTimes drama critic Pauline Kael who couldn't understand how Nixon could be elected because "nobody I know voted for him." Exactly.

I agree with pretty much all of this.

Re: Nice Planet 3: I Can't Believe I Share A Planet With THESE People!

I have voted for quite a few Democrats over the years. Even voted for the incomparable Sheila Jackson Lee in a Houston city council race. Voted for Democrat Kathy Whitmire five times to be mayor of Houston. For the venerable Democrat Subby Anzaldo for city council in Omaha. And for J. Bennett Johnston for US Senator from Louisiana. For the most part these folks were more liberal than I but made good local officials. I would never vote for Whitmire or Lee for Congress. IMO, conservatives want that level of government closest to the people to make the decisions wherever possible. As the decision making power moves further away, our ability to influence matters diminishes.

Besides being a fan of Traficant, until he got busted (of course he did, no one that "honest" is actually honest in politics), my biggest left wing/other thing was debating Coleman/Ventura back in the day. Last minute, I went Ventura. Still ok with that, since he didn't go nuts until he was out of office.

You infer whatever you want to, Mr. "I'm a Retired Media Bigshot Who Always Reported With Integrity". After all, speculating and sensationalizing are what your former trade does best.

Just because I despise both major candidates for pandering and over-commercializing, and also disagree with the extreme and absolutist views of all the available third party candidates on my ballot, does not mean that writing in "None of the Above" implies that I'm an anti-government retard. At least I bothered to voice my opinion (and I did vote for some local and state candidates that I mostly agreed with).

You know what? This is tu quoque, ad hominem, whatever the Latin Nerdery of the Week is; my apologies.

My second statement still stands.

Proof positive that no good deed goes unpunished. I was kidding, responding to "paranoid, anarchist, dingbat."

We've had this discussion previously. From where I sit, a vote for that clown is still not a credential.

The other side chimes in on the tornado...

I don't think Mr. Jones is making an attempt at satire. Funerals haven't even happened yet.

Any outrage out there?

Weather weapons. LOL.

Where are the usual suspects to offer their anger and tell us they should at least wait until the dead are counted and buried? Or do they only get mad at people on the other side of the aisle?

Yeah, that's what I thought.

Re: Nice Planet 3: I Can't Believe I Share A Planet With THESE People!

12-year old girl in Queens hangs herself after being cyberbullied. Way to go, morons.

Is there a charity helpline for this sort of thing, similar to what LGBTQ has with the Trevor Project? Granted, children this age aren't always permitted by their parents/guardians to use telephones for non-seven-digit numbers, but it might be an idea. I seem to remember that a recent Kitchen Nightmares participant, Amy's Baking Company, was involved with a charity that gives information about online bullying.

Which is hilarious, given the recent news about them.

Still no outrage. I'm astonished.

It's hard to be outraged at something so incredibly asinine. He's just a nut-job with an audience, unfortunately. Why Drudge maintains close ties with him, I'm not sure.

An agenda-driven, horribly-timed insensitive joke said by an otherwise seemingly rational person is worthy of discussion. This nonsense should simply be ignored, or at the most, pointed out for what it is: Lunacy.

Seems to me that you are being selective as to what you become outraged about. I mean, isn't God targeting conservatives just as asinine and worthy of dismissal?

Not only does Drudge have ties to this guy (not that Drudge is any gold standard), but so do the Republicans who appear on his show.

Let me know when congress holds a hearing on any tweet that the Daily Show lady sends out...

Re: Nice Planet 3: I Can't Believe I Share A Planet With THESE People!

Ironically, Amy was the biggest bully of them all.

I think it was more of Samy the gangster than Amy. However, they did mention for their re-opening this past week that a portion of proceeds would be donated to a charity that works to combat cyber bullying, and that was the point I was trying to make.

You're funny.

ETA: Although, the fact that you don't think the idea that God sent a tornado to earth to punish people is "lunacy" is kinda scary...
