Titanic bandmaster Wallace Hartley's violin to be auctioned. But the NYPost perpetuates two Titanic myths in their story: that the band played hymns to calm down the passengers and, at the last, played "Nearer my God to Thee." The first is absolutely untrue. They played light rag time and pop tunes. The second is almost certainly not true. One problem: why would British musicians play the American version of the hymn? It is set to two different pieces of music. Surviving Marconi operator Harold Bride made no mention of "Nearer My God to Thee." But it does sound right, doesn't it? Regardless, their heroism cannot be denied.

His scandal didn't involve dead girls or live boys, so I can't figure out why he wouldn't be a lock. :p

One of Edwin Edwards' two enduring contributions to our political culture. The other? "Vote for the crook, it's important."

As someone posted in the comments, he's a budding sociopath. No doubt he'll be mollycoddled by child psychologists and we'll be reading about him again in another decade or so.

Mollycoddled. Now that is a $2 word worth remembering.

Two teens found guilty in Steubenville rape case. Sentenced as juveniles to 2 years each, but may be held in detention until 21.

I haven't followed this too closely, so I'm pretty unfamiliar with the details. I've seen the pic of her passed out (which is pretty d*mning in and of itself), but I have to assume the convicts weren't anywhere near what you would call "blasmed"?

Even if they were, it's pretty hard not to convict here. The fact they were tried as juveniles despite being in their late teens and accused of such a heinous crime strikes me as a bit odd.

5 more shot in Chicago today. Evidently a concerted effort to make up for a "bad" Saturday. One victim is listed in critical condition. A second, a 15-year old boy, was shot in the head is also critical. The 44-year old in critical was working inside a restaurant and wasn't a target. No comment from Dianne Feinstein.

You are fined one credit for a violation of the Verbal Morality Statute.

IIRC, DM was partially based off of real life events in LA (for example, the rapid expansion of Taco Bell everywhere.)

Some New Zealand folks unhappy with what they see as a "pornographic" tourism logo.

Reminds me of the old joke about a psychiatrist administering the ink blot test to a patient. And the patient describes each ink blot as representing an increasingly lurid sexual coupling. At the end of the test the doctor tells the patient he's got the worst case of sexual mania he's ever seen. The patient replies: "I've got sexual mania. You're the one who's been showing me the dirty pictures!"
