Their attorney, Edward Gay, who accompanied the couple during the interview, said school officials discriminated against Hamilton.

"These teachers are serving a secular purpose and, therefore, they are governed by the law of discrimination," Gay said.
Umm, no. As church employees they are serving a decidedly non-secular purpose. They use education as a means to that end. Just as when I recently went to Nashville, flood relief was not the reason I was there, it was the tool that we used to accomplish the reason that we were there.

If that is the lawyer's case, he's going to lose quickly.

Depends if the school has federal funding and it just happens to be called a xtian school. The article isn't very descriptive on that.

Re: Nice Planet 2010

Nice job quoting an article, thereby implying that your next quote comes from said article, when in fact it does not. Clown.
But it does come from the bible, which a religious school should be following if it really was a holy book.

It it is Christian and private.

It also has no library. Make your own jokes.

If you thought for a moment that that passage came from a newspaper article and not the Bible, you really need help.

And Foxton didn't write anything else. He wrote the link and a quote (which isn't included when you quote a post). So stuff it.

Yep. The sin wasn't firing the harlot, the sin was hiring her as a teacher in the first place. The administrators of that school are going straight to hell.

Re: Nice Planet 2010

Nice job taking a quote completely out of context to suit your own needs. The quote is from one sinner's letter (Paul) to another (Timothy) explaining what type of leadership works for him.

Re: Nice Planet 2010

Honors for the little boy with the "dangerous" toy soldiers on his hat. But no word on when the "educators" who punished him will be fired.

Note also: the ACLU is siding with the boy.

That's a nice story, but is it usual for Generals to hand out certificates allowing civilians to call themselves a Brigadier General? I mean, that is a rank that some people spend a lifetime and never attain. It would be like the head of the Boy Scouts saying it was OK to say you were an Eagle Scout. Well, if I worked my ass off to attain the rank and another guy can just call himself that...I'd be pissed.

I realize it has very little to do with the story, but that struck me as odd.

I'm no expert, but honorary titles have been around since Christ was a corporal. Besides, I doubt this kid is planning to try to "pass" as a general. Most governors have available to them some sort of document proclaiming the recipient as a "Field Marshal in the Rhode Island national guard" or "Admiral of the Nebraska Navy" (for real) or some such. And nobody takes it seriously, just as nobody (with one prominent exception) will take this seriously. Airlines for years have been passing out pilot's "wings" to kids and nobody takes THAT seriously (except Aeroflot). Remember the scene in "Inherit the Wind" where the judge kept referring to Frederick March as "colonel," and Spencer Tracy objected, saying it gave March an unfair advantage? Turns out March had been made a "colonel" in the Tennessee militia or something. The problem was solved when Tracy was promoted to "temporary colonel."

I respectfully suggest you worry about something more weighty, like the idiots who are infesting schools from coast to coast.

"Break him. Make him a private. I have no serious objection to the honorary title of Private Brady."

It's just for a child, but yeah... The rank is only worth the paper it is written on (about 10 cents at Fed Ex Kinkos). It's kindof like the certificate I got from my Catholic friend saying that, because of my helping out at a spaghetti feed at his church, I can call myself Cardinal. I'm as much the Pope as this kid is a General. I just hope his parents make him aware of such a thing so he doesn't grow up to think that he's something he's not.

Just wait until he brings back a grade below a B. Or gets Detention. :D

Heh.... here's one thing: Yeah, she cried foul and caused anguish, but:

One of the suspects attempted suicide over the allegations. If you ask me, I say set precedent for false accusers. Add a charge of attempted 3rd degree murder. No, she didn't intend to cause this person to attempt suicide, but her reckless behavior pushed him beyond the point of wishing to remain alive. I think that's grounds for severe punishment.

I'd same something like 10-20 years in prison with no parole is adequate.

There's a simple way to prevent false accusations of rape: all cases involving crimes of a sexual nature are sealed and kept confidential until a guilty verdict has been returned. Arrests are confidential, everything is done in private in a locked courtroom, no one knows it even happened unless someone is found guilty. If it's a "he said, she said" deal and no one is found guilty of anything, or the charges get dropped, the case doesn't leave the courtroom (not sure about plea bargains.) This eliminates the legal/media circus: no more lives ruined over borderline or malicious accusations, plus genuine victims are now more empowered to come forward without fear of ending up in a ****show (unless they're lying, of course.)

Couldn't the same be said for all crimes though? How does it make "The media" the bad guy?

It could.

And the media knows that splashy stories sell.

On June 19, thebrain allegedly brutally murdered 5 kittens by setting them on fire. Police are questioning thebrain about his supposed involvement.

Those two little words "allegedly" and "supposedly," amongst other phrases do wonders for the media.

Plus with many other crimes, there's actual grounds in fact. Someone IS dead. The jewelry store DID get broken into and looted. Those are clearly visible and confirmable facts to the public. Now we just need to figure out who did it.

With rape and sex crimes, it's usually just someone's word. Granted, there could be a video tape or lots of witnesses or something.
