Re: Nice Planet 2010

Not sure where else to post this. 16 yo Abby Sunderland is feared lost at sea.

Abby Sunderland, 16, who is attempting to become the youngest sailor ever to circumnavigate the globe, was feared lost at sea today after her crew lost contact with her boat.

Jeff Casher, an engineer on Sunderland's support team, said two emergency beacons on her boat are now signaling she is in trouble.

Abby's mother, MaryAnne Sunderland, told ABC News that Abby manually activated two beacons around 6 a.m. Pacific Time Thursday.

A beacon designed to automatically go off when it contacts water had not been activated, she said.

Abby was in 20-25 foot waves at the time of last contact, with 35-knot winds, said MaryAnne Sunderland, who is due to give birth at the end of the month. She was shaken but focused on trying to get a rescue effort together.

Re: Nice Planet 2010

I can't believe the parents of a 16-year-old would allow her to go solo like that. Obviously there are support boats but seriously?

Her brother had set the old record when he was 17. It was broken by a kid from England. She was trying to get it back. Her father is the director of a yacht club and she's been sailing since before she could walk. Yes, it's very dangerous, but she was well aware of what she was getting into and her parents supported her fully.

Yeah, I assumed she was more than qualified. I just question the sanity of allowing someone who could is barely old enough to drive in the US out on the open water. Oh well, good to see she was found alive!

If she was Mexican, half the board would be rooting for her boat to capsize.

 I'm going to pretend that was sarcasm and hope I'm right...

Re: Nice Planet 2010

It's an "avoid the filter" spelling. Another version is "bastige."

No offense to the powers that be, but USCHO's design and implementation has a LOT to be desired. Ability to turn off filtering and a mobile site that doesn't look like it was designed by a retarded monkey.

Give them the money and the time.

It's a free site. Just sayin'.

So is GPL and it has zero filtering and a full site so it's actually usable on the iphone. This automatic redirect to the mobile site without the option to default to the full site with the smartphones out there now? It's ridiculous.

Time? Smartphones have dominated the market for years now. This site is stuck in the dark ages.

Dude, they operate this site on a shoestring budget. If you think you can do better (for no pay) then email the administrators and volunteer your services.

I can't. I'm not saying I can. But, like I said, GPL runs on donations. Much smaller but an even smaller user base. God forbid someone criticizes the forum...

And while GPL is free, the donations to there pay for the site easily. Again, just sayin'.
