Nice Planet 18: Welcome To Our Planet. Sorry It's So Messed Up.

Earlier this season a young woman was attending a game between the Seattle Kraken and the Vancouver Canucks. She was sitting behind the Canucks bench and noticed a strange growth on the neck of a Vancouver manager. She snapped a photo and showed it to him between periods. He subsequently had it examined and removed. She had saved his life because it was a cancerous growth and had gone undetected until she saw it. The Canucks put out the word to try to find her to thank her and at a recent Seattle-Vancouver game she was recognized and awarded a $10,000 scholarship to continue in medical school.

Internet sleuths also found that she had posted a sign around her neighborhood in April 2020 asking if anyone needed help grocery shopping. As you recall, the waiting list was insufferable and the fees quite high. She offered her services and refused tips. "I just want everyone to be safe and healthy."

On its face: Some futurist wanted to create a roadmap to rebuild society in case of nuclear war at the height of the Cold War.

Conspiracy theorists: It’s a New World Order plot to control humanity (despite allowing the population to grow exponentially away from the 500 million figure on the stone in the 40 years since the stones were erected) and/or a satanist site of worship.

I'd never even heard of this monument until today. Based on the content of the inscriptions and the fact they were in different world languages, it figures it would trigger the precious fee-fees of fascist snowflakes.

This is my exact feelings on this. I honestly never knew this thing existed.

I hadn’t either.

Weirdly (coincidentally?), Kandiss Taylor, one of the GA GOP gubernatorial candidates made it one of her campaign points to see them destroyed in early May, calling them satanic.

Wasn’t too popular getting only 3.5% of the vote, though.

John Oliver mad a point about this in a recent episode... That's how I knew about them and figured that his report was what was trending when I saw them pop up this morning....

Darwin wins again. Let it play out.

One, I'll wait till someone other than the daily fail provides a reason.

Two, there were tens of thousands in the street celebrating Halloween, most of whom would not have been celebrity gawkers. So let's not act like this was a CPAC convention.

That’s what their infant said.

How can somebody do that? I flatly do not understand. After having a baby girl, she became my life. How can somebody forget to take care of their baby like that? It boggles my mind.

In this case? Zealotry mostly.

I've never understood it either. I take three steps at most before realizing I forgot my phone. Much less a kid.
