NHL 2021: I Pledge Allegiance to Gritty

The choke job to end all choke jobs.

Now, who's the Vegas head coach again? But the big bad Bruins players didn't like him, didn't want to play for him.

Way to go Bruins, again, with a titanic choke job. Fire the entire management structure. Neely should have been ousted with that abhorrent Mitch Miller debacle, but we don't believe in accountability here.

And then Montgomery pulls a 2003 Grady Little and freezes in the playoffs. And THEN that scally cap wearing dingus ... blames the goalie coach.

Blast them into space.

Why would you fire anybody after the most successful RS in history?

Series are SSS. it happens. It sucks, but there's no villain and no need to find a scape goat.

I've wanted upper management gone for years, and that came to a huge head with the Mitch Miller situation, and the fact that they totes investigated themselves and determined they didn't really do anything wrong.

Then this season - where most observers predicted mediocrity - found lightning in a bottle. They had meant for this as a final season with Bergeron and bringing Krejci back, and then with the season's success they went all in - trading what few draft resources they had left for Bertuzzi, Hathaway and Orlov. And then Montgomery shit the bed in the most pathetic way. Dude was outcoached by that titan of mediocrity Paul Maurice. This is Grady Little in 2003 category.

So now they're faced with like 10 million in cap space and more than half their roster as UFAs. I absolutely do not trust Neely/Sweeney to do the necessary - they'll look at this season as validation instead of the magic it was - and just keep firing towards mediocrity. Except with no draft capital, no cap space and a farm system that's scraping the bottom of the league.

Once again, this team stepped onto the big stage and wilted. It's time for systemic change. Bergeron and Krejci are almost definitely retiring. It's time to start over.

Bless you guys, but to burn the whole thing down after that season would be really, really funny. If it were a 4 game domination by Florida, I can see *more* of a point to do that, but still not totally.

It's pretty probable that the team really solidified after the Miller thing, and they were playing in spite of the management. But I will agree that the coaching let them down- Florida made some adjustments that confounded Boston, but they had a few games to figure it out and make changes. Although, it's also possible that the team largely ignored the coaches- going on what they did during the season.

But if you want to burn it all down, that's fine with the rest of the NHL. As a fan of the team you obliterated one of the records for, I'm not sad at all that Boston didn't get past the first round.

Bergeron and Krejci are almost certainly retiring and they have less than 10 million in cap space to fill an entire third line and, I think, one defenseman, and to resign multiple RFAs (and cover bonus overage). I do not trust Sweeney to do this properly at all, nor do I trust Neely. I'd be fine not trading everyone away, but they are really hamstrung against the cap next year anyway.

Simply "retooling", after this lightning-in-a-bottle season is just guaranteeing a rapid decline to mediocrity. And this Bruins team has proven again and again that they come up small.

What happened to this universe? The only original 6 team left is Toronto. Let alone, neither 2022 finalists got past the first round. We’ve already covered the choke by the best team ever.

Crazy.

In my playoff bracket I got every team in the first round except the Bruins and Avs.
