NHL 2019-20 #1: Where Toronto Plans To Win Without Playing Defense.

I am so proud to have Matt Dumba as a member of the Wild. What he and the rest of the HDA are doing is phenomenal.
 
Got into a rabbit hole and ended up reading about some of the old playoff formats. The early NHL days had terrible brackets.

Starting in 1929 until the league no longer had 7+ teams, six teams made the playoffs, three from each division. The two division winners would get byes to the semis. Except they played each other. In fact, every seed played their counterpart. The quarterfinal rounds were 2v2 and 3v3, so the first games played for each seed was always American vs Canadian division.

Prior to 1929 was a more logical format with divisional playoffs so that 2v3 played in the quarters, and then the winner would play the 1 seed in the semis.

After the Maroons folded and the Original Six came around only four teams made the playoffs. Instead of the obvious 1v4, 2v3 format, it was 1v3 and 2v4.
 
I'm cheering for the Islanders to win, but in all honesty I was cheering for a game 7. This series has been fantastically fun to watch.

So what you're saying is the NHL has always been the dumbest league in sports?

That was utter dominance. I don't know who these guys are but I love them.

I was going to say, families are allowed in now, so that should provide some reset/recharge for players.

However, only Canadian families are allowed in for the moment. And they must isolate at home and have three negative tests before going to Edmonton. Then they must isolate in a separate hotel and produce four negative tests before being allowed to interact with players.

It's possible some are already into that quarantine timetable, but otherwise the conference finals will already be done by the time families can begin to interact. And they still haven't figured out American/European families.

Very fun to watch. They are 10-2 in regulation (1-4 in OT). Isles are playing some pretty darn good hockey, and let's hope they play better in Edmonton than last time (going 0-3 and being outscored a million to three).

1993 was a lot of fun because they weren't expected to get there and shocked the world by knocking off the top-seeded (and back-to-back champion) Penguins. While they followed a similar path this year (knocking off the higher-seeded Capitals and the top-seeded team from Pennsylvania)), I don't believe they have truly "shocked" any team. Time to change that against Tampa!

Well for anybody with a strong stomach we could use all hands on deck this time. Tampa's transition and speed were insane on Labor Day. I have no idea what we're gonna do to get back in this.
