NHL 2015, Part 3: Stanley Cup and Offseason

Re: NHL 2015, Part 3: Stanley Cup and Offseason

Interestingly Directv and Comcast are not required to offer the single team package. But the NHL will make it available to them for offer.

Re: NHL 2015, Part 3: Stanley Cup and Offseason

Wonder if the Hawks games will still be blacked out when they play the Wild as we are in the Wild's geo-area for some reason.

I'd imagine so.

I'll probably do it. I rarely ever watch different teams' games.

I watch a lot of different teams games when I'm bored especially because I'm in an extremely competitive fantasy hockey league where I need a leg up wherever I can try and find one. All 12 owners are very active and a lot of the guys know who the stars are in the minors and even are keen enough to track line combination changes.

Most likely, as this doesn't affect the territory each team has.

Also, be glad you don't live in Rockford, it's classified as the "home" market for the Blackhawks (obviously), Wild (eh, understandably being 10 minutes from Wisconsin, and Wisco cable), and also the Blues (err what?).

DirecTV has a great Regional Sportsnet Lookup webpage which shows approximately what you won't get per zip code entered.

I've never understood why the blackout rules are so far reaching. No reason Milwaukee residents should be blacked out from Wild games, UP residents blacked out of Wings and some Wild games. Iowa blacked out of every professional sport.

They need to readjust the local market areas. Or just make it $200 for every game. No questions asked.

I wouldn't mind if they just made everything ala-carte outside of getting your "home" teams.

I can imagine though that my idea of the "home" team markets may be different from my neighbor's and it would get sticky.

Whatever. Just glad that I can get my team up here. There were many, many years after I left the Chicago area (1989) that I couldn't without going to a bar with satellite.

Assuming you don't have DirecTV? My parents do, in Green County, and get both CSN-Chicago and FSN. All non-Wisconsin baseball and basketball games are blacked out on both, but they get all Wild and Hawks games. I may piggyback off their account up here in Appleton. ;)

It's really nice getting all the CSN pre and post game coverage. Only games we miss out on are those on WGN.

Used to get Comcast on DirecTV, but they redrew the lines at some point. A buddy of mine who lives two miles away from me still does although he doesn't like the Hawks.

I miss the Comcast coverage, but I guess it prevents me from spending 4 hours on Hawks games instead of 3.

Re: NHL 2015, Part 3: Stanley Cup and Offseason

Here's what I'd do:

Expand
Vegas
TO2 (play in West)

Relocate
FLA to QUE

Seattle lost an NBA franchise. Suspect city for another pro team.

A Toronto team in the Western Conference is a bad idea. They just realigned to get teams in the Eastern time zone in to the Eastern Conference. Why screw that up?

That way TO gets to see all the teams more than once. Plus it's the media capital of Canada. If you want to maximize HRR, TO is a destination.

And then there is the possibility of a TO - TO Cup final.

But if the Canadian $$ is in the 60's, forget Canada.

Re: NHL 2015, Part 3: Stanley Cup and Offseason

Detroit buys out Weiss (good riddance).

Chicago trades Saad to Columbus, details still coming.

Holy schnit! The Jackets are going to be a force next season.

The potential is there, sure. But they're still in the Eastern meatgrinder.

Just in their division, they have NYR, NYI, Pittsburgh and Washington. Philly has done a decent job getting themselves stronger as well, although who knows if it will be enough.

Atlantic is going to have Montreal, Tampa, Ottawa and Detroit probably battling for spots. I don't see Florida/Toronto/Boston/Buffalo threatening for much.

At least 1 of them be golfing in early April.

Chicago trades Saad to Columbus...

And full meltdown ensues on Chicago's hfBoards page. :D

Until people found out that he was asking for 6.5 for 6 years.

Saad is overrated.

Good player with potential but having watched him the past 3 seasons, is invisible a lot of games.

Reading those guys on game threads when the Hawks are down is pretty entertaining

He's a beast in the post season. I disagree. I'm bummed.
