Wings also get Brad Richards for 1yr/3M, possible bonuses to get to 4M (250k for round 1 playoff win, another 750k for round 2 win).

Mike Green to the Wings, 3 years, 18 mil.

So are we calling this a blockbuster FA season by recent standards? :p

Green gives us the righty we've longed for on the powerplay, but I do not trust his defensive play 5x5 - Blash better have him on a short leash come playoff time. Richards is a bit past his prime, but can still produce as a 2/3C, and has been past the second round a lot.

My God, YES!

Agreed on all counts. Blashill likes the kids, knows what the kids can do, so this should be okay. If it's true that Datsyuk is out until November/December, Richards is a capable replacement that doesn't hinder the kids (until Christmas).

I'm actually excited about Green, in that the Wings didn't overpay (IMO) and get the right handed defenseman they've been shopping for, for the last few years.

I really like how this team is lining up. Which Howard is going to get injured early in the season and the Wings are going to have to play from behind (yet again) to make the playoffs. :(

Now, if only the Wings could Pronger the Franzen contract...

Green could've easily milked us (or someone else) for a 5 or 6-year deal. I'm alright with 3 years at that price. I'd like to see him put some honest effort into improving his play without the puck, though I'm hardly expecting him to blossom into Lidstrom or even Kronwall.

SHHHHHH!

That said, when your bromance goes down with another tweaked groin, there's a reason we have Mrazek. ;)

They did that with Weiss already, I think.

My guess is that the Green move means the end of both Ericsson and Kindle in Detroit. They've got young D that they've got to figure out pretty soon.

Kindl is done for sure, he's had more than enough time to step up his game to the level of expectations that come with being a 1st rounder, and now Ouellet and (pick one) Sproul/Marchenko/Jensen are nipping at his skates. It's a bit unfortunate, because in almost 250 NHL games, he's a career +12, so in my opinion he's not anywhere near as bad defensively as the LGRW crowd thinks. However, he's never taken the next step necessary to avoid making him expendable in the name of keeping 5/6/7D cheap.

Ericsson, by virtue of being drafted 291st overall, has basically exceeded all expectations by playing in over 400 NHL games. Last year, though, was his worst since his first full season in 2009-2010, so he's on thin ice.

Yeah, well, the LGRW crowd is about as intelligent as the 6 unemployed derelicts who call into every sports talk radio show in town. Grain of salt necessary there. Barely qualified to manage a 3 car funeral, but they're experts on what an NHL GM should do. Gotta love people.

Yeah, the LGRW folks are often the equivalent of the 'Hawks HFBoards bandwagon.

The joys of being a sucessful "Original Six" team...*sigh*...it's so hard. :p

Justin Williams to Washington. Good signing. Now they should dump Ovi. ;) Kidding not kidding.

Re: NHL 2015, Part 3: Stanley Cup and Offseason

As per the Chicago Tribune, Vermette is returning to the Coyotes. Two year deal, averaging 3.75m per season. Sigh. Thanks for the GWGs, the face-off wins...

Can't we at least keep Johnny Oduya? Oh, probably not. Anisimov has the "Saad money," so the cap squeeze is probably still too tight.

The Oshie

Is now a Washington Capital.

@alex_prewitt: The Capitals have acquired F TJ Oshie from the St. Louis Blues in exhange for Troy Brouwer, Pheonix Copley and a 2016 3rd-rounder. Woah.

Sucks for Cops, with Elliott and Allen locked up as 1A/1B for the time being.

Loved watching TJ in a Fighting Sioux jersey. Guy brought it every game. Thought he would have a better NHL career up to now. He has had one 20 goal season and unless he plays on a line with Ovy and Backs I really don't really don't see anything changing unless a change of scenery is what he needs. Disappears in the playoffs. 30 games with 5 goals and a -12. Ouch.

Yeah, but he's great in shootouts against Russian goalies
