Seeming jmh isn't allowed to, I'll go ahead and say that that call against Hagelin was bogus. :)

Well that stunk. Just a brutal game by the Rangers below the goal line. New Jersey out-hustled and out-skilled them tonight. Refs were good for a second game in a row, although I think their positioning was poor at times, they got in the way quite a bit. Would be nice to see the Rangers move up Boyle between Kreider and Callahan because I think Stepan lost his game with them in the third. Onto the cess pool that is New Jersey for game 3.

Apparently there was some pre-game controversy over Brodeur's comment about shooting the puck at someone when they slid along the ice to block a shot....any carry-over into the game itself?

Re: NHL 2012: Playoffs! Part II: Boogalooing all the way to the Cup

Just in case you were wondering, one side or the other had until May 16 to inform the other they were ending the CBA or it would have auto-extended for one year.

The NHL informed the NHLPA the CBA was ending. Woo 3rd lockout since 1995!

If this does happen and the Rangers win the cup, we're going to have to A) Kill John Tortorella and B) Shut down the New York Rangers so this never happens again.

Watching the Canada - Slovakia Quarterfinal at the World Championships, even on the big ice, Zdeno Chara looks like a monster.

I thought it was soft but didn't have any impact on the game. The fact that the Rangers played like *** in the first and third periods is what had an impact on the game.

Re: NHL 2012: Playoffs! Part II: Boogalooing all the way to the Cup

Based on Bradley-Terry rankings (i.e., KRACH) found here, the updated (after 5/16, old KRACH) most likely outcomes are:

LAK in 4 (25.8%)
NYR in 6 (24.0%)

Overall winning probabilities:
PHX 17.8% - LAK 82.3%
NYR 63.1% - NJD 36.9%

As always, KRACH is not a perfect predictive system. In fact, it's not predictive at all; it's retrodictive. Home-ice advantage, momentum, and the like can not be accounted for reliably, so they are ignored.

Remarks: Sorry I missed the last few days, school got in the way. Anyway, the KRACH values used don't account for last night's game, so the Devils' chances should be a bit better than stated here.

Next Round possibilities:
Code:
-------------------
| S | ECF |
| C |-----------|
| F | NYR | NJD |
|-----------------|
|W|PHX|11.2%|6.54%|
|C|---|-----------|
|F|LAK|51.9%|30.3%|
-------------------

I swear Finland is the team we always face in the quarters and we almost always lose. It seems in any hockey tournament if the US is eliminated Finland is always involved.

Re: NHL 2012: Playoffs! Part II: Boogalooing all the way to the Cup

I know that nobody here in this country seems to care about this tournament but, in the last 20 years the US is the only one of the big 7 to not win it, haven't won a medal since 2004, and haven't won better than bronze since 1950 (gold since 1933!).

It just seems USA Hockey takes the "it's during the Stanley Cup Playoffs, who cares?" attitude and the results reflect it. It may take place at a crappy time but we can't change that, so we might as well try to win it.

I think all of those are factors but I think one of the biggest factors is it shows our lack of depth across the board. Look at some of the names that are playing on these teams when the big guns aren't there. We've got some real average hockey players out there playing important roles. Look at te guy wearing the C. One of the worst defensive defenseman in the NHL and he is your "veteran" leadership.

One of the local (and maybe not so local) hockey minds here, Lou Nanne, was saying that the big issue is we don't get our best players to agree to go. Even those who have been eliminated from the cup hunt turn down the invitation too often. Not sure who he means as he did not name names in the piece I heard. He claims that is not a problem for Sweden, Finland, etc.

But... it's during the Stanley Cup playoffs. Who cares?
