NFL 2019: Superb Owl and Offseason

Re: NFL 2019: Superb Owl and Offseason

I hunted him down. My god, he's a movable wall.

Bleacher Report did a story on him, saying that when he entered games for the Gophers, rushing averages increased by 0.9/attempt. A DE for one of the big schools had 3 sacks, some tackles for a loss, and other general mayhem in the first half of a game. In comes Faalele, and he limited the DE to 1 tackle for the remainder of the game. The Gophers kept running the ball at the DE, too.

Re: NFL 2019: Superb Owl and Offseason

A bit of an exaggeration but here are some of the hogs:

Russ Grimm 6' 3" - 273
Joe Jacoby 6-7, 305
Mark May 6-6, 295
Jeff Bostic 6-2, 268
George Starke 6-5, 260
Ray Brown 6-5, 318
Fred Dean 6-3, 253
Jim Lachey 6-6, 294
Raleigh McKenzie 6-2, 290
Mark Schlereth 6-3, 282
Ed Simmons 6-3, 315

* according to Pro Football Reference

mark may looks to be 195 now (if that :))

Shaq is only 324. That guy weighs 76 pounds more. That's about the difference between Ralph and Norton.

You seen Shaq lately?

0.9 per attempt is an enormous increase. The best school in the division ran for 6.6 yards/attempt. Minnesota averaged 4.3 Y/A.

He did this as a true freshman in the Big Ten.

Dang - NFL odds on this guy? It has to be tremendously faster there, but this guy's a beast.

Hard to tell. Being a stud? 10%. Drafted: 75%. Playing a game? 90%. Making a team, 99.5%.

But I have no idea :D

Re: NFL 2019: Superb Owl and Offseason

And gotta remember, Craig Ironhead Heyward was 5'11", 265. As a running back.

Edit: IIRC, he did hit 290 lbs at one point in his playing career.

Re: NFL 2019: Superb Owl and Offseason

The 18-game season idea won't die.

I will admit, the idea that a player can only play in 16 games is intriguing simply from the standpoint of managing your roster (think MLB Playoff pitching). But I also say this as someone who, 99 out of 100 times, will pass on actually buying a ticket to a game. I can see people being ****ed if they went to see a star QB/RB and saw that they were off the roster for that week.

I mean, if they're going to do 18 games, and don't get me wrong they shouldn't, but if you are, you have to go all in and have all the players play all of the games (barring injuries and the other usual stuff). As you said, what's the point if then you don't get all of the players for all of the games. I mean, I know the point is two more weeks of ticket sales and TV revenue without having to actually pay players more, but it would be a little too on the nose.

Re: NFL 2019: Superb Owl and Offseason

I think the 18 game season is a total negotiations ploy. Its a way for owners to get other things they want by starting with wanting to add 2 more games. I still think the answer is 17 games with every team playing a game in Europe, Mexico, Canada or somewhere without an NFL team in the US. I think that is preferable to me because it removes teams giving up home games to play these foreign games. Their fans don't deserve to lose home games for these opportunities.
