NFL 2019: Superb Owl and Offseason

If you're saying athletically then there are maybe a handful guys from before 1980 who could survive in the current NFL with its drug-pumped mongoloids.

All you have to know about the difference is that Bronko Nagurski was considered a monster in his day: 6-2 226.

Jim Thorpe and Jim Brown on pure natural talent maybe. Dick Butkus and Deacon Jones on pure violence maybe.
Just skill sets alone. His ability to read and react to modern defensive schemes, make the pinpoint and timing plays that today's game requires, just would not be there. He didn't possess those sorts of skills.

Re: NFL 2019: Superb Owl and Offseason

If even they turned you down, I can see why you have such anger toward Boston.

You are mistaking disdain for anger.

I'm angry at New York. It warrants it. I'm angry at San Francisco. I would be angry at DC if I could muster the effort.

San Jose, Indianapolis, and Boston I merely pass through with repugnance. Secondary emotions for second tier cities.

You should love Boston Kep. Like Scooby, you get off of losing. Its your identity. Therefore by rooting against Boston sports teams, you get to achieve what you desire most - a loss! Its akin to taking on nonsensical political positions that even Fidel Castro would consider too left wing and then getting to brood about it when your candidates never win an election. ;)

You can't say that if he went through the same training he wouldn't in the same way you can't say that because Babe Ruth didn't face today's pitchers he couldn't hit them.

Sure, if you transported Ruth to the plate exactly as was with his experience and his training regimen and put him up against deGrom, Scherzer, or Kershaw he'd have problems, not least because he'd be hungover and have a nagging tickle of gonorrhea. But that's not apples to apples. The question if you really want to frame it is have Babe Ruth launched from the Baltimore orphanage into The System that raises modern ball players. What could he have done with that? And there's just no answer to that beyond absurd speculation.

Cornell hockey has really been f-cking up that sports death wish for the last 39 seasons.

It's a good thing the Mets are usually there to salve me. And the Islanders, well...

OK, maybe the Islanders.

I see you're not even pretending to be a liberal anymore. That at least is good to see. Even a brief dalliance with honesty is a healthy look for you, Rover. Tell us again how FDR was a commie pinko?

Take the titles away and Brady is still the greatest of all time. It's not even close.

That is one of the dumbest statements I've ever heard. If Brady has zero Super Bowl Titles, there is no way he is the GOAT, none.

Whose candidate never wins elections?

Hey you're the one who thinks FDR was a conservative! :D I'm a realistic liberal. You're a loon. Doesn't mean you still shouldn't be voting Dem. ;)

Cornell hockey sucks. Have they won a title since Dryden left? Mets/Isles/Cornell...has a team you root for won a title since the 80's?

According to Kep we've never had an actual liberal President. That's a pretty long losing streak, no?

If he played today he would have gained experience over his years and training and done just fine.

This is like saying GLA doesn’t call his own plays like Bradshaw and could do so, nor does he take hits like. Bradshaw and would crumble.

Jim brown would have trained and worked out like today’s players and been as great. As would George mikan:)

Re: NFL 2019: Superb Owl and Offseason

If we are going to let this discussion continue, despite overwhelming evidence that TB is GOAT, I have every right to bring Ron Vander Kelen into the discussion. His stats might not be great, but put him in today's game and he'd dominate.

Re: NFL 2019: Superb Owl and Offseason

I've said it before and I'll say it again, the Tom Brady/Bill Belichick combo is the greatest QB/HC combo ever. That is impossible to deny. But I do think its quite difficult to separate them. I think Belichick vs the Field is closer to being lapped than Brady vs the Field. The way he is able to win in the Salary Cap Era (partially because Brady doesn't take his full share) and change what he does almost weekly to attack your weaknesses on offense and take away your top threat or 2 on defense is just amazing. I believe its been said before that Belichick won't be changing the game because what he does is so difficult to be duplicated. It is amazing they've been able to do what they have over such a long period of time. The last few years, the first 4-6 games we all wonder if its finally over and in reality all of it is about laying the groundwork for Belichick to do whatever he wants schemewise the rest of the season because the players have played it all and learned the ins and outs early in the season to execute later. Belichick is brilliant in his ability to mold his roster into whatever it needs to be for this week's opponent.

This is 100% correct. Belichick is the greatest pro coach of the last 25 years. I just don’t know anyone from before that era we’ll enough to say they’re better or worse than him.

The only argument worth having regarding Belichick in the modern era is whether he would have been as successful without a salary cap.

And that wouldn't speak to how good a coach he was, anyway.

Arguably you can only begin to measure how good any coach is in the cap age. Previously it was just about which preening f-ckwit owner spread around the most manure (cough, Yankees, cough, Lakers).

Pretty much, I'm not sure how many offensive coordinators he's had during that time but there's been turnover there and the offense keeps churning. Sean Payton is the only one I can think of that's been as consistently good for as long and his team gets to play at least 10 games a year in a dome.

Sure. But Payton's team had to cheat to win his one Bowl. Belicheat only cheated on half of his Bowl wins.

Re: NFL 2019: Superb Owl and Offseason

I'd be curious to know how many other teams had a bounty system at one point in time. I'm guessing it'd be all of them.

I don't know how you can compare Payton....Belichick never went 7-9 three straight seasons. I do think Belichick has benefited from playing in the AFC East full of 3 organizations that have been terribly run for a long time but I don't take anything away from him because part of the reason they're that way is they're chasing him.
