Re: NFL 2015: Let's Talk About Balls

This may be my first (and only) post in the NFL thread, but I thought this was very interesting - <a href="http://espn.go.com/espn/otl/story/_/id/12496480/san-francisco-49ers-linebacker-chris-borland-retires-head-injury-concerns">Chris Borland retires at 24</a>, cites brain injury concerns.

I think a decision like that takes a lot of guts.

And... really?

So P. Willis and Chris Borland? They know something that we don't?

seriously? has he never read a newspaper?

Brandon Marshall has read a newspaper, but he's too brain damaged to understand.

A player knocked down is not tackled. He must be in the grasp and control of the defensive player. That should end the heat seeing missiles that are the LB & DB.

The NFL doesn't want that. While the league talks about player safety with one side of its mouth, on the otherside it worries about neutering the game and driving away its television audience. Back in the early years of the league you had to stop all forward momentum of the ball carrier while he was in the grasp of the defender. They did away with that for a reason.

Colts proposal: Dumb. Irsay must written it while highly medicated or having DT's. If you want to stay withing striking distance, stay withing striking distance. Don't rely on gimmicks.

Proposal about player with eligible number reporting as ineligible. The only definitions I could find for "tackle box" depended on the position of the tackle. It seems like it'd be easy enough to comply with the proposed rule, while still violating the intent. It wouldn't be that hard to line the player up so that he is the tackle, and therefore in the tackle box by definition.

When is that "big reveal" supposed to occur regarding those dastardly Patriots and how they deliberately deflated the footballs during the AFC Championship game?

As soon as Roger Goodell figures out how to say the Patriots did nothing wrong without saying the Patriots did nothing wrong.

As long as one can place a wager nothing will be neutered. They are safe
