Re: "Next Year" Begins Now: Michigan Tech 2010-11 Season Thread Part I

I'm really getting a kick out of the USCHO WCHA blog's predictions. Their reasoning that the Badger's will sweep is because Tech hasn't "beat a decent team." I guess that those three wins that Wisconsin are against two perennial decent teams, Holy Cross and Alabama-Huntsville. I'm not expecting Tech to be world beaters, but so far they've taken down equal or better competition.

To be fair, Holy Cross and Huntsville have made it to the NCAA tournament more recently than we have. In fact, they have made it twice since our last appearance. ::sarcasm::

Re: "Next Year" Begins Now: Michigan Tech 2010-11 Season Thread Part I

I'd say F2B&G was dead on in the game thread, Tech didn't step on UW's throats when they were up 2-0. Both NMU and MSUM came back to tie it after Tech was up 2-0 this time UW came back and took the lead.

Here are Jamie's postgame thoughts:
Dirk wondered about fatigue with Nielson going out, that is an excuse
We're coming off a week break, yes it hurt, but fatigue didn't play a factor
Great start and 1st period
Give UW credit, they played well, we have some things we need to tighten up
UW got some good bounces
UW won the special teams battle, our PP didn't get pucks to the net, need to be better tomorrow
Doriott's role was expanded after Carl went out, he got beat on one of UW's goals
But it was a nice shot by him for his first career goal
We did some very good things, deflected a lot play to the perimeter

Re: "Next Year" Begins Now: Michigan Tech 2010-11 Season Thread Part I

Just got in and saw the score. Read the posts. I hope neilson is going to be ok for tomorrow. or was it just the cfb.?

glad dorito scored but we can't have people giving away goals. Sounded that we just kind of wilted there in the 3ed with the game on the line. PP has to work better and pk as well. I liked how we came out, but we just have to do as f2b&G said. find a way to finish. A third goal anywhere in the first two would have been huge. Certainly we didn't expect to win all the games, but tough to lose this one. Still will be interesting to see how they do tomorrow. I'd like to see us play a full 60 minutes. we haven't done that yet. last week wisco took a lot of bad penalties. sounds like they did a lot better tonight.

Re: "Next Year" Begins Now: Michigan Tech 2010-11 Season Thread Part I

Tomorrow is the real test. Play uninspired and defeated, it's the same old team. Play like they care...and maybe we have a shot to finish 9th. :o

Also, more fun irrelevant stuff...including tonight, I hadn't worn my jersey for the past six games. I'll bring it back out of the closet for tomorrow night's game.

Re: "Next Year" Begins Now: Michigan Tech 2010-11 Season Thread Part I

I think/ hope they'll finish much better than 9th, but I'm an optimist. Looking at the competition, mid pack seems to me about right. but the puck will have to fall for us occasionally, and we will have to win all the ones we should win. Tomorrow is huge for sure. We really need a couple of points, it will take the pressure off some of the other series down the road and give our guys some well deserved confidence. We have to learn to play hard regardless of the score and the time left in the game. You can't get up 2-0 and then ease off the gas.

For those interested, Peter Rohn is now playing for St. Olaf.

For those of you at the football game tomorrow, this is the man to taunt about pictures that will get you a beer. I also recommend sunshining him.

I recommend punching him in the throat.

This man makes Brett Favre look like nothing.

Thinking about last nights game and watching jamie's interview on tv, seems like two things. We can't win scoring only two goals.
Second, the pp has to be better.

I think we will put out a good effort, let's see if it pays off.

Re: "Next Year" Begins Now: Michigan Tech 2010-11 Season Thread Part I

Last night, Tech was tied for the first 8ish minutes of the third period. They played behind for the final 12.

In that period, they only managed 5 shots on goal.

I don't know if Wisconsin was playing the trap (they have in the past). But 5 shots in the final period of this hockey game is unacceptable.

But, tonight is a different night, and the puck drops at 0-0. If we get the lead tonight, we had better not **** it away. You can't **** around with the lead against any team, let alone a good one on the road. We need killer instinct.
