New York Yankees: Order Has Been Restored To The Universe

Re: New York Yankees: Order Has Been Restored To The Universe

Maybe he should've accepted a contract then. Obviously he doesn't want to play for the A's or Pirates. The Yankees really got him by the balls.

He may have to pay the Yanks to play :D  ;)

Boras and he blew it big time from $14 million for 2 years to $6 million for 1 year to nada, zip, zilch.

Ha! I love it when Boras F's up like this. :D It doesn't happen often but when it does I relish in it.

I think it's equal parts stupidity on Boras and Damon's part. Damon's got just about as big an ego.

Re: New York Yankees: Order Has Been Restored To The Universe

Winn has been signed and the Yanks have signed Marcus Thames to a minor league contract with an invite to the big league camp. Thames doesn't do much for me.

Damon still on the golf course :D ;)

Re: New York Yankees: Order Has Been Restored To The Universe

Are these jocks really so dumb that they can't see what a screw up Boras is?

They stare at the ginormous contracts that the very best in the game get and they think he'll get them that too. The problem is that Boras pimps all of his players as the best at their position, and after a while GMs don't buy it for the peons.

Thames kills lefty pitching though which... Is exactly what they need coming off the bench. Totally OK with this pick-up.

Er...

So the Yankees signed Chan Ho Park to a one-year deal and have him pitch out of the bullpen.

Well, OK then.

Re: New York Yankees: Order Has Been Restored To The Universe

Doesn't he also play a little 1st base. Another Steve Balboni?

Didn't know about that, I figured he was strictly an outfielder. It'd be fun if he can make the team, I always enjoyed Thames.

From the "Fun News From Camp" segment of things...

Although I don’t think any reporters were there to see it, word is that Montero hit the top of the scoreboard in left field with a batting practice home run off Triple-A hitting coach Butch Wynegar.

“I didn’t turn around and look,” Wynegar said. “I made him look good today.”

Apparently the blast hit the M in George M. Steinbrenner Field. That’s a long, long way. Joe Girardi watched a lot of batting practice and called Montero, “very mature offensively.”

For an idea of how far that is, check this photo.

Butch Wynegar

I got his autogragh in 1976? I want to say at the old Met Stadium. Somehow he was allowed to sit and talk with his girlfriend before the game at the fence by the dugout on the first base line. My grandmother knew some folks that worked for the Twins and every once in a while we'd get these seats. Anyway, he was talking to her and I had my program (must have been about 8 years old) and I walked up and nicely asked him to sign it and he did. One of those things you never forget.

Jesus Montero is once again exploring the, um, "outfield" during batting practice.

Wow.

Apparently he hit one over the batter's eye in center field today.

If he gets the catching thing down even more, I will have a perma-boner having him in the lineup.

It would be great if he's no more than 10 feet away from Tony Pena all spring training.

I'm sure that Tony is working with him almost non-stop to help him get better. He was good last year but the guy is what, 19? 20? He's starting the season in AAA and that's ridiculous on it's own. If he keeps up with his mashing he'll be up in September and on the team next year on his bat alone, barring injury.

He's 20. Last year his move to Trenton was exactly what he needed. He was forced to play behind the plate more because there was no Austin Romine type of catcher (good defensively with pretty good offensive skills) there. Also, Tony Pena made a couple of trips down to work with him. From my point of view, he needs to be in the field as much as possible because he hasn't really had a great amount of opportunities to catch during games the last two years being paired with Romine in the minors.
