New York Yankees: Order Has Been Restored To The Universe

Re: New York Yankees: Order Has Been Restored To The Universe

I don't see how is hitting skills are the same. From what I have read it looks to me like Granderson has in the past few years had fewer hits, doubles, home runs, and RBI than Damon. Less walks, had a lower batting average, on-base percentage, and OPS+ than Damon. Not sure how that translates into better skills.

The best thing I think about this deal is that Granderson is younger and could possibly get better while Damon is probably going to decline.

Granderson seems to hit like its a contract year every year whereas with Johnny.... Well you see how he did last year with the carrot dangled in front of him.

Re: New York Yankees: Order Has Been Restored To The Universe

While I generally like the moves the Yanks have made so far, I have some thoughts about team chemistry. Last year the players all seemed to get along well and seemed to enjoy playing together - even A-Rod. Melky was a big part of several late inning wins and he and Robbie Cano were running mates. Does anyone think Robbie might have some trouble without having his best friend on the team? I don't know the answer but I hope it doesn't.

Personally, I don't think Gardner is an everyday outfielder and I would have preferred trading him rather than Melky but obviously Melky had more trade value. I do like that the Yanks have picked up some good character guys for the lockerroom in Granderson and Johnson. I would still like to see Damon back at a reasonable price.

Re: New York Yankees: Order Has Been Restored To The Universe

Man, when did everyone become a negative nancy around here?

Not negative, just wondering out loud. I think the Yanks have the best starting pitching in the AL and not having to face "Doc" Halladay many times a season is a blessing.

The Yanks have traded or lost one-third of the starting offense in Damon, Matsui and Melky. They have only replaced two-thirds of the loss with Granderson and Johnson. I don't view either of the replacements as upgrades but rather as good, solid replacements keeping the team intact. Now we just need to get that other outfielder in the fold.

Who's everyone?

It's the royal everyone. I would've thought a World Series win would get some folks to get off the ledge, but with all the crying about giving up Melky Cabrera I read yesterday... Holy sh-t.

Re: New York Yankees: Order Has Been Restored To The Universe

Just wondering if Nady is totally out of the picture at this point for the Yanks.

That World Series was sooo last season. I am worried about the 2010 season! :p

I hope so.

Here's hoping Javy reverts back to his White Sox form. Otherwise the Yankees absolutely stole him.

I'm surprised Wren didn't throw McCann in the deal too.

He was still pretty decent with the White Sox. For what it's worth, the prospect pitcher you guys got from the Yankees (Arodys Vizcaino) has great stuff but is still a ways away. He was a top 10 guy in the organization.

As far as prospects still with the Yankees go, Baseball America ranks Jesus Montero as the #5 prospect in baseball and John Manuel says he's the best hitter, period, of all the prospects they ranked out this year.

Montero will start the year with AAA Scranton. He's 6'4" 225 and just turned 20 in November. Giggity.

Phil Rogers of the Chicago Tribune has an interesting take on the futures of Albert Pujols, Joe Mauer, Prince Fielder and Adrian Gonzalez. Link to full article below.

Nothing happens in a vacuum, including the relative lack of spending by the Yankees and Red Sox this offseason. Executives with other clubs believe baseball's two biggest spenders are sitting out the Matt Holliday sweepstakes because they want as much flexibility as possible to land one of baseball's four horsemen at some point in the next two years.

The Red Sox have been pursuing a Gonzalez trade. Given Kevin Youkilis' ability to play either infield corner and their holding a club option on David Ortiz's contract for 2011, they would be a fit for any of the four.

The Yankees are keeping the DH spot clear, for the time being, as a potential way to accommodate Pujols, Fielder or even Gonzalez playing alongside Mark Teixeira. They have advanced catching prospects ( Jesus Montero and Austin Romine) to offer if the Twins reach a choking point with Mauer, which Mauer will dictate more than the club.

Re: New York Yankees: Order Has Been Restored To The Universe

The baseball park factors stats for 2009 came out today. These numbers help determine if a stadium is a hitters park or a pitchers park.

Care to guess which one new Yankee Stadium came in as? I'd bet you'd be wrong.

Yankee Stadium came in with a score of .965 making it a pitchers park.

Safe to say the 2009 Yankees were all about destroying media memes created to put them down and this is the latest one (New Yankee Stadium being a launching pad) to taste the boot in the arse.

It explains that while home runs increased, many hits that would've been doubles became singles and triples were virtually eliminated.

Highest HR factor in all of baseball though. Consider the taste of that boot.

Correct, but reduced on everything else. Yankees having seven 20+ home run guys last year should've helped that out a bit. :D

Second to last in doubles and dead last in triples is stunning.
