New York Yankees: Order Has Been Restored To The Universe

Re: New York Yankees: Order Has Been Restored To The Universe

It's one season's worth. I'm not trusting any park factor that has CitiField as a home run paradise. :p

We'll see how much the scientists know, they said that when old Yankee Stadium comes down that it should cut down on the home runs as the wind patterns around the stadium will change. I'm not buying that though, with the concourses all being wide open and airy, the wind inside the stadium flows much differently.

I know the wind patterns for the last two years at Shea dramatically changed because of CitiField. We've realized if CitiField had its structure up, Mike Piazza would have hit a game tying grand slam off Mariano Rivera instead of hitting it to the warning track for the final out of the 2000 World Series.

Hairston is choosing between the Yankees and Padres apparently. Yanks might get something done this week, that's the scuttlebutt.

The Yankees better make sure they get a good batting coach to keep their edge. :)

Hairston signed with the Pods.

I was watching Yankee Hot Stove on YES. They were discussing how nicely Carl Crawford would fit in the Yankees when he becomes a free agent after this season. With the number of top free agents being available after this season all the Yanks need is a stop gap for this season in left.

Appears Johnny Damon isn't garnering the interest that Boras thinks he would get. Would not surprise me to see him back on the Yanks at a reduced salary this season. Wang apparently has 15 teams pursuing him including the Mets. He could be pitching by May 1st in the majors and has been throwing for 7 weeks already. Still a slim chance he could return to the Yanks but pretty doubtful as they already passed on their chance to keep him.

I would not be the least bit surprised if Damon returns with his hat in hand. If he signs for one year, then you'll know what the Yankees aim is. Damon wants a multi-year deal though.

Re: New York Yankees: Order Has Been Restored To The Universe

they dont have much going on for bench players right now. I definitely think adding damon is probably what they will try to do (or jermaine dye)

neither gives the versatility that hairston or hinskie gave, and both probably cost more. but you cant win them all.

i wonder what is clay bellinger up to :D

Re: New York Yankees: Order Has Been Restored To The Universe

Ramiro Pena probably ends up the be all utility bench guy, although that's not much of a bat. The Rule V guy, Jamie Hoffman, will probably get a fair shot to play off the bench to start the year.

forgot about hoffman. i'm sure he signals the end of the pena in the OF experiment?

I wouldn't go that far, especially if Gardner ends up playing LF or CF. Hoffman certainly fits the mold more as a corner outfielder. I've got a sneaking suspicion there's another guy out there NY will pick up on the cheap be it Damon, Dye, or someone like Reed Johnson.

Re: New York Yankees: Order Has Been Restored To The Universe

Frankie Pilierre of Fanhouse says that the Yankees are working the phones to find a left fielder via the trade route. He then says this:

Heard whispers that Nelson Cruz is a name the Yanks inquired on. Not confirmed and no word if talks even got off the ground or not

If talks advanced any further than a "no" or "give us Chamberlain/Hughes plus more" I'd be surprised. But if he can be had at a reasonable cost in player(s)... That's a pretty solid acquisition.

Re: New York Yankees: Order Has Been Restored To The Universe

23 days til pitchers and catchers.

I read yesterday in the NY Post that Yanks supposedly offered Damon $2 million for a 1-year deal. Other sources are saying they are willing to go up to $5 million.

Interesting article on Damon and Boras by Bill Madden in Saturday's NY Daily News and how Boras mis-read the market and missed the boat on Damon.

Pending a physical, the Yankees have signed Randy Winn to a one-year deal.
