And the version you saw last here in New York... Well he was hurt and guess who refused to give him a break? Didn't think I'd let that go now would you?
Fact of the matter here is this is a heist. Vazquez's ERA will come up pitching in the AL East, but he struck out 238 guys last year and has pitched over 200 innings every season save for one where he threw 198. He's a horse, he'll start a ton of games and he strikes out tons of guys. That's awesome.
Vasquez is probably your second best pitcher. He's at worst your third best pitcher.
How close is it to the time when Damon tells Boras he wants to be a Yankee and I'll do my own negotiating?
Oh, that's right it was all someone else's fault why he sucked in NY! I keep forgetting that.
Like I said I hope he is better this time around but I am not getting my hopes up. This reminds me of those investment commercials where they say "Past performance is not indicative of future performance".
With that being said I like the trade. Melky was very expendable and since the Yanks are so insistent on babying Hughes and Joba (heck, we don't even know if they can start on a regular basis over a full season) at least we have a inning eater. Bottom line is the team is better today than yesterday. Question remains, and it depends upon which Javy shows up, how much better are the Yanks today.
I said this after you signing Teixiera on Dec. 23rd last year and I'm saying it again this year, a day earlier...Give the Yankees the trophy now.
Don't worry little slugger, the Mets will surely sign another backup catcher soon.
Don't kick us while we're down, Lions fan.
With the trade and including the still-unfinalized signing of free-agent designated hitter Nick Johnson, the Yankees' payroll for next season stands at $200.9 million for 16 signed players. That includes two not expected to make the opening-day roster: pitcher Andrew Brackman and infielder Juan Miranda.
i'd like to see them stand pat and go with granderson in LF and gardner in CF. that would put the payroll still under last year - if only by pennies.
I don't think Gardner has enough offense to play CF every day.
True enough they can afford a hole in the lineup but why have one when they don't need to? They can certainly afford a better player than Gardner to patrol CF/LF without increasing the payroll too much.
He'd be a bench player on most teams let alone the Yanks. With that said I do love his hustle and his attitude and wouldn't mind him sticking around as a fourth outfielder.
I like the Vasquez move a lot. I'm a little worried though that the Yanks have lost some clutch bats in Matsui, Melky and likely Damon.
Granderson is a titanic upgrade by playing centerfield and also having Damon-like hitting skills.
