Not bad for free tickets! :D

Re: New York Mets 2011: The Fierce Urgency of Later

Typically well-researched AA piece on the starting rotation.

Money quote:

Jon Niese, Chris Capuano, and Mike Pelfrey should all see improved results, and R.A. Dickey figures to maintain his current rate of success. That's all good news. A few weeks ago, I wrote that Dillon Gee was for real so far because he had a 3.83 ERA, 3.94 FIP, and 4.05 xFIP. Now, Gee appears in line for some serious regression as his 2.86 ERA sits nearly a full run below his 3.83 xFIP.

Yet another attempt to get above .500 tonight, as we start a 3-game series in Detroit.

Re: New York Mets 2011: The Fierce Urgency of Later

Jose Reyes playing this well because its his contract year...or playing this well because he is actually this good when he can stay healthy?

It's going to be awfully tough sell to a frustrated fan base if Reyes is allowed to walk after the season.

First grand slam since August of '09. I really thought it was going to hit a two-year slump.

And, first time over .500 since they were 3-2 after their game on April 6th.

They've got a shot tonight, too (Capuano v Coke).

Thursday? Not so much (Pelfrey v Verlander).

7,807 games and still waiting for the opposition's R - H - E to look like 0-0-0

I think at this point we'd all be happy to take an AJ Burnett 9-walk non-shutout no-no just to get the monkey off our back.

If you're scoring at home, or even if you're alone, the Mets have scored 52 runs on 69 hits in the last 4 games.

The 15 walks and 6 errors by the opposing team sure haven't hurt.

Blue line = league average?

IINM, position-adjusted ML average.

He's on his way to one of the highest WARs for a shortstop not named Honus Wagner or Alex Rodriguez.

Our long vesting nightmare is over. KRod dealt to the Brewers for 2 PTBNL. Thus endeth* Omar's Follies.

(* I don't count Bay as a folly. Nobody knew he would turn into Doug Flynn.)

Latest Betran rumors seem to be clustering around the Rangers, Giants and Braves. The consensus is we will be fortunate to get a B minus or a couple sold C prospects, and we'll likely eat most of the remaining $6M.

Sickels' rankings from last October, for comparison:
