New York Mets 2011: The Fierce Urgency of Later

Re: New York Mets 2011: The Fierce Urgency of Later

Revisiting the Carlos Beltran trade:

Zach Wheeler is off to an impressive start at Port St. Lucie so far.

Hope he keeps improving and gives us a legitimate #2 or #3 pitcher in the coming years.
His walk rate has been a lot lower in his first four starts in St. Lucie than it's generally been in his first 1 1/2 seasons as a pro; hopefully that's actually a sign of things to come and not just a quirk of small sample size.

New dimensions of Citi Field will make the Mets a perennial powerhouse.

Is it just me or does leaving up the old walls and putting in new (temporary?) walls seem incredibly lazy?

Especially since they're "covering up" the retired numbers and pennants.

I don't know, it just seems like there could have been a better way to go about this (or just don't do it in the first place, but that's another story).

They can't mess with the left field wall because it's load-bearing. I don't know whether they will actually leave the other walls up.

Changing field dimensions always strikes me as "the last refuge of the incompetent," or the desperate, but at least the new short fence will be painted Mets blue.

You mean the stadium will actually start looking a little bit more like home instead of an ode to the Brooklyn Dodgers?! Crazy! what a concept!
